First Coyote this year
« on: November 01, 2010, 11:01:07 AM »
Took a big dog from my deer stand this weekend.  Second one I've seen this season.  Matter of fact, I've seen 2 coyotes and only one deer so far!  Missed the first coyote with my M94.   :-[

I was gonna skin this one out since the pelt was really nice and thick, But he just smelled to bad!   :-\  I often said that if deer smelled as bad being gutting as rabbits do, noone would hunt them!  But the coyotes got them bunny's beat before you put a knife to 'em!  I just have not been able to skin one...  :-\

I sure would like a couple of nice, soft, case skinned hides for decoration though...  :-\  maybe another full hide for a hat...  :-\  Keep me nice and warm during those cold December/January days in the deer stand...  :-\  Gotta get 'em skun first though...  ::)  Maybe a taxidermists would do it... probably cost an arm an-na leg...

I haven`t been out after deer yet, but I`ve taken 3 coyotes so far. I won`t skin a coyote for the same reason, but when you talk about deer I had one of those that didn`t smell to good. When my boy was 4 yrs. old I shot a deer that had been hit on the road, that was not the problem. As I field dressed it there was a little head kept popping in between mine and the knife. Well I split a gut.  :o The little head snapped back out of the way, and I hear," Stink daddy stink." That was over 30 yrs. ago.  ::)

Appears that he was feeding well, most of them do come to think of it. Nice thick coat like you said.

Richard, check with a fur buyer if there's one around you. I had one skinned and dried for $10. He does them all the time. Some guys brought some others to him, saw mine hanging there and wanted to buy it. He didn't seem to think much of mine when I took it to him and when I picked it up he said he wouldn't mind having it. Good luck and keep droppin em.

...check with a fur buyer if there's one around you....

That's a good idea!  I'll see if there are any around.

Another dry weekend as far a deer go...  :(  But as I was driving in another coyote ran in front of me headed for my stand...  >:(

I think we need to spend a little time thinnin them out after deer and before turkey season!
