T/C .22 rifle
« on: November 01, 2010, 11:40:09 AM »
Can anyone offer an opinion on the T/C semi-auto .22 rifle I am considering? It will wear a scope for my use but is not topped at this time. Does the scope ride high similar to a HK.22M? Accuracy as good as touted? Thanx.

Some of the early serial numbered guns were problematic.  You may want to research that.

I have a Benchmark. Be sure to get an R55, they have the
corrected extractor that caused the earlier problem. They
would chip a bit of the chamber where the extractor hit it.
Mine is a replacement for an earlier Classic. The new one
shoots as well as the old one. T/C Replaced mine under
warranty at no charge! Got to love a company that will
stand up and take care of problems as they arise.

Well, you really need to understand that the following is my opinion.

However, I had an earlier "classic" NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and it was a real piece of junk!

AS has already been said, research them.

I bought the rifle because of the ads published in the national mag, expecting the rifle to do as advertised. NOT!!!!!!!!!!

Sent it back to TC hoping they'd make it right, and it jammed - again - on the first clip of ammo, the clip being the new one they returned with the rifle which was to have been corrected.

I clearly told TC exactly what the problems were and they were NOT corrected.

The ads claimed a rifle which would do 1/2" - 50 yd groups and had a "match" quality trigger. NOT, NOT, NOT, not even close.

All I ask was for the rifle to do/be as they claimed.

I hear that the later ones were good rifle, but I really think I would go to Rimfire Central forum and see what those folk have to say.

Still looking for a quality rifle, I checked out Kimber, Cooper and finally ended up with a Clark Custom 77/22 which was every thing, except auto-matic, that the "classic" wasn't!

By the way, Clark also tricks out 10/22.  Good company.

Hope TC has their ducks in a row now, as the "classic" sure didn't do their name any good.

Keep em coming!

Morn'in Flynmoose,

Wish TC had helped me out as they did you, but they were probably knee deep to a tall moose in problem rifles when mine went in.

As it was, I gave them about a hundred boat loads of bad press and went look'in for the quality of .22 they claimed their's to be.

I also made the mistake of buying a cheap scope - Trashco in this case - so the total experience was about a minus 10.

Could have changed scopes, have been there and done that over the years, but the whole experience was, as already said, a minus 10.

Scope wise, didn't make that mistake again.  Bought a Leupold 3X9 EFR (Extended Focus Range) which makes a very nice combination.

It is great fun to hit the bench with a range of .22 ammos and watch group after tiny group take shape on the targets.

Keep em coming!

Hi Darrell,
I was sorry to read of your problem with the T/C 22. I guess I was lucky and
as the old saying goes, luck works better than skill. I have some other T/C
poducts that have given me great service. My "albatross guns" happened to
be Winchesters. I bought two new trappers in 357 and 44. They both had
stripped screws and poor wood to metal fit. They liked it in the safe more
than outside on the range. I sold one at a gun show and the other to a friend
that has probably not shot it yet. I sold them at a loss, went with Marlin and
never looked back. This forum and RFC are great for the exchange of info and
experiences in the facinating world of firearms. Take care!

PS The Benchmark is too heavy to pack for any length of time, that duty goes
to a CZ 452 in 22lr or 17m2, love them!

For those interested in the TC 22 rifles all I can say is the majority opinion is they are worth the money.  As pointed out in this thread there were troubles with the early ones but TC stood behind them.  Darrell had troubles and was not satisfied, but his is about the only one I have heard express this opinion, and he has been expressing it in every thread on this topic for several years.  It is to bad he had trouble but it doesn't mean the guns are junk.  I had miserable luck with a Marlin 60, but so many people have good luck with them I can only assume that it was unique to that gun.

I would recommend you look one over, see if you can shoot one, and find someone local that has one and will talk with you about theirs.  Good luck with your decision.  I am in favor of supporting our American gun makers when we can.  I hope the industry can remain profitable and stay in America.

Yep, I'm an ol'Coot and came down hard on the "classic" do to the customer service I for some reason came up with on this TC product.

It is kind of like the set of Danner boots which came back from the factory worse then when they were sent in.

Manufactures really need to know that they may only have one chance to make a good impression, so do it correctly the first time as you may not have a second.

Over the years, because of my place of imployment and the fact they paid for my steel toed boots, I have owned 5 sets of Danner boots, with only one pair giving good service.

I really believe that TC has a much, MUCH better score then that, I suspect my situation cost them at least some sale.

It didn't need to be that way, but it was their choice.

Keep em coming!

Had a Silver Lynx with the cracked chamber. Easy to see at the 3 o'clock position with the bolt open. Actually had a matchhead size piece missing. Pretty accurate though. Great mags.
