YEP, can't read or post without it. I guarantee you that I'll NEVER buy another chevy product. It's gotten to be like a survival course, ya never know whats coming at you. I invited some friends from another board over. HEH, they left quick, one pmed me and said no thanks. POWDERMAN.

I'm not sure if I've got the domain right, but this should get rid of it if I do.

If on Windows, use Notepad (NOTEPAD - or another plan text editor - not Word or Wordpad, etc) to open c:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts

Once you have that file open, add the following line to the bottom:

Code: [Select]

127.0.0.1	dashboardad.net

Save the file. If I'm looking at it right and that is the source domain for that ad, it won't popup again.

Same thing should work on Linux. The file is under /etc/hosts. Use whatever text editor you prefer. Will work on Macs too. I *THINK* that the hosts file is at /etc/hosts on there too, but I haven't used my Mac in a while so I'm not positive.

Now, now! You're over reacting to just one input.

If you're not going to buy a chevy again, here's a couple more inputs that will give you truly good reason for not doing so:
1) 49.5 billion dollar bailout for GM, a company with a then-market value of about 9 billion
2) 9.5 of that has been paid back, but GM advertises that they have paid it all back.
3) The unions were given preference over the creditors and share holders during the bailout, thus robbing investors of their money.
4) Pending 54 billion dollar tax cut for GM as part of the bailout.
5) The company still has a huge competitive disadvantage because of the deals made to favor the union.

Someone explain to me why the company even needs to be in business when the numbers are that bad? There are plenty of good cars being made by other manufacturers, and getting GM out of the picture will not hurt the consumer one iota.

Oh, and I forgot to mention:
6) The congress resulting from yesterday's election will do nothing to change any of that.

Now, as for shooting the chevy you already have, I advise against it because ammunitiion is better spent at the target range.

For all those that don't like the Chevy pop up ads.
When the contract runs out why don't we all foot the bill of the ad to GBO?
I would be willing to do my part.
Remember, GBO is free to all of us and the bills have to be paid somehow!
If it helps keep GBO operating then it is but a small inconvenience!
I don't like it all that much either but it would never sway me one way or the other as to what I would buy in the future.
I don't like all the TV ads that come along right at the most exciteing or important part of a program but they wouldn't stop me from watching TV.
GB has said they will be gone when the contract runs out.
Maybe something else will take it's place, maybe better or worse, who knows.
Personally, I have better things to do than worry over something I have no controll over.
I just click the close tab or button or what ever it's called and move on.
No big deal.
It's a small price to pay for a site that is worth so much to so many!!!
Just my opinion.

I like LONGTOM's idea.

I'm not going to shoot my Chevy because they were dumb enough to buy into an annoying way of advertising. I''ll bet it will disappear after they get enough feedback and try something a little better.

I also don't share the "hate GM" idea because they took a government bailout. I'll bet that any individual on here that owned a failing business and was offered a government bailout to keep it running would have jumped on it. I've driven GM products most of my life and had good service from them. I'll continue to do so. I did have a couple of lapses and bought Ford. I can't say I had good service either time. Ford and Dodge are not on my "buy this" list. Buy what you want. Like the dumb commercial on TV that is worse than the one on here says, "It's your money".

Hang in there. Graybeard has already said it's gone when the contract is up.

Because there are advertisers, the users of the forum are not the customer. We are the product. The advertisers pay to bring us to their ads.

If an ad is offensive to the people that make the site a viable product to sell to advertisers, then there is a problem.

It is highly unlikely that there are enough individual benefactors to make any difference at all in the statistics that buyers of advertising regard as compelling.

The bottom line is that people who are not individual benefactors drive the viability of the site.

a fair observation, but... haven't you just about heard enough from that Michael Waddell moron, and his Chevy truck - it's th' truck of trucks!!

WAIT... that wasn't very nice... I'm sure Mr Waddell is a decent fellow and no moron, but the ad gives a different impression, after the fiftieth time or so...

I don't hate GM for taking a bailout. I hate them for running their business in such a way as to put it in that position. 30 years of building 4 lines of cars that were all crappy and ugly. They waited WAY to long to get rid of Olds and Pontiac. They made stupid mistakes like the ga to diesel motors in the 70's. A general lack of quality and a refusal to change took them where they are. They niether deserve nor will gain my business ever again. I'm driving a VW Jetta, a Ford F150, a Mazda B3000 and an 89 Chevy Suburban. That's the last Chevy I'll ever own. It's a good one and a keeper. About the only decent product made by GM since 1974 was there pickup and truck line. I compared my VW to the Malibu. The VW had more cylinders, more torque, more options and is faster. Oh... it get's better mileage too. GM sucks...

Chevy is wasting their time with me, vie never bought a new chevy truck or car.

I do like fords and have bought quite a few new ford trucks in my life. The first in 1969 & the most recient the2005 model sitting in the driveway. Ford trucks just make me happy.

not very knowledgeable about websites so i thought a member is a supporter. i thought that opinions were what this section were for. i don't actually mind ads but you can't even read posts. sometimes i close it and it closes down all the windows totally. if everyone here was a supporter would it cover all the costs? doing business on here is fine by me, like facebook. but those talking pop ups make me not want to come here sometimes, and this is my favourite/most viewed site

Membership is free, and the site needs members. Thats what attracts advertizers. I honestly don't know if everyone became a supporter( by making a contribution annually) it would cover all the expenses. But it would help, and should cut down on the need for so many adds.

We do have some sponsors that are companies that sponsor a topic, and we should buy from them when we can because their adds are much less offensive.

On this thread if I counted right there are only 4 members that fly the supporter banner. Maybe it's just a matter of getting the word out that we can help out financially. I know we all love this site and spend a lot of time here. I know were guests but it feels more like home to most of us. And I was always taught that family pitches in and shares the cost of things. Thats why I became a supporter when I found out about the opportunity to contribute. JMO

I have no problems with either the pop ups,(click it one time and it's gone), or my Chevys.
I have never owned a bad one nor a bad Ford but I still will take a Chevy over a Ford anyday.
Just what I have had good luck with and happen to like best.
Others think differently.
That's fine by me.
I also happen to like Winchesters better than Remingtons but that don't make Remingtons bad.
I guess we are all the same, just different!

I guess I am lucky because it only pops up one time for me until I change threads and then it's back until I close it.
Maybe it's the type of security software I am using. Panda (civilian verson of what the military uses)

I haven't minded it until recently. Like I said, as quick as I get rid of it another takes it's place. doesn't happen every time but plenty enough to be anoying. That started happening in just the last week or so. GM is just like any other auto company. You can get bad ones and good ones.

Yes something happened when we got hacked. Matt has been operating under the assumption it was on our end but he has been unable to find what is causing it so has now asked me to contact OSH and see if they changed the code on their end.

The video is now showing at 5 minute intervals rather than the 10 minute intervals we agreed to. Like the rest of you we'll be glad when the contract ends so we can shut them down.

I am an old MS-DOS man and use that editor but also got used to using the notepad to edit CNC programs.
