Palmer made Dan Wesson
« on: November 06, 2010, 01:17:34 PM »
0ur gun club had a swap meet last weekend and as everyone was getting ready to leave I spotted this Dan Wesson revolver and with a quick trade I took it home . When I got home I checked it out closer and found it was made in Palmer, it's a 6" barreled stainless without a barrel nut. I only remember hearing about a Dan Wesson without a changeable barrel , anyone have any info on these ? I can't find any thing on it, maybe I'm looking in the wrong place????.... help!!

Check here:

http://www.recguns.com/Sources/IIIB2b.html

It says the fixed barrel guns became available starting in 1994.

Not much info really but it's a start.

Just google dan wesson revolvers and a lot of info will come up.

I have been reading all I could find on it and what you said was the only thing I could find on the fixed barrel, it looks like it was a one maybe 2 year only production run. A lot of repeat stuff out there... thanks for the info....

I met Seth Wesson and his son, down in Ft. Stockton,TX, at the IHMSA Intl. He was the great grandson of the Dan Wesson family.  I had a FFL at the time, and was selling quite a few of those at the gun shows back here in Ohio. He told me that he was trying to break into the police market, and they didn't want a barrel that could work loose.
Course at the time, every police dept. was switching over to some sort of hi-cap 9mm, to make up for all the bad shots they had to hire. And revolver sales to them went into the toilet. At one time, a distributer in Minn., was dumping them at a ridiculous price just to get rid of them.
I never got a chance to shoot one. If you don't like the barrel assembly the way it is, I think if you contact CZ/DW, they'll convert it to one of the switch barrels for you. If it shoots good, have a good time with it. gypsyman

Is the thread pitch the same on the fixed barrels as the removeable barrels?  If so, unscrew your fixed barrel (with a 2x2 in the cylinder window) and put a barrel/shroud on it.   You will also have to drill and install a pin to keep the shroud from moving around while tightening it.

I do not suggest you try to convert it to a removable barrel. The fixed barrel models have a distinct bevel shroud (similar to a Taurus in looks) and these revolvers are quite rare. Those who say they won't appreciate in value are the same ones that said just a couple of years ago that Dan Wessons will never appreciate due to the limited interest.
Well, prices have increased across the board with some doubling, if not tripling in the last 18-24 months. With the new Dan Wesson .357's going for over $1000, CZ must figure there is far more than a "limited interest". Besides, by the time you have spent the money to convert it, (new factory shroud/barrel sets are not cheap), you could buy a used, very good condition M15-2. Used shroud/barrel sets can be obtained fairly inexpensively, but are you sure they haven't had 10K+ rounds fired thru them?
Keep it stock.

I just noticed the original post date. Probably too late if they even still own the revolver.

I still have it and don't plan to change it, I thought about it  (just for a minute) and decided to leave it alone. It is the first stainless Palmer one I have seen in my area, in excellent condition and I like the looks of it just the way it is. I have a couple other ones i can play with :D I have one with a scoped 8" barrel and another one with the 2-6-8 " barrel. I have been looking for a 4" barrel but can't find a new one for less than $180. I didn't give much more than that for the gun when I bought it. of course that was thirty years ago ;D
thanks for the reply, I didn't know if you could change the barrels on the fixed ones or not... now I know
