Rossi Youth 22/410
« on: November 06, 2010, 08:04:22 PM »
A quick question?????  A gentleman at the range today said that I could shoot a 45 Colt round out of my 410 barrel?  Is this accurate?  I know they have the Judge that will shoot both but I want some other opinion?

A couple of months ago I was at my local Wally World and saw a Rossi Youth Combo 22/410 for $117.  I couldn't resist.  By the time I was done buying a variety of ammo in 410 I was up to a little over $200.  It sat in my truck for a until today.

What a blast to shoot.  I put one of the fiber optic snap on sights on the shotgun barrel a limb saver slip on from WW so my daughter would have a pleasant first experience with it and I am amazed at this little set up.

With the iron sights I was hitting quarter sized targets at 20 yards consistently.  The 410 pointed and shot well too.

In my opinion this is a first great long gun set up for a new shooter.  I like the safety aspects of this gun.

I am going to pick up a couple of different 22 loads and see what it likes.  I also ordered a scope mount for it and will put a little red dot on it.

It carries like a dream but I will probably put one of the Winchester slings on it as well.
HOOAH!!!  It's an Army thing!

Not if you enjoy your body the way it is! :o The 45/410 are 45 cal rifled barrels with a choke tube in then to straighten the shot. They're a whole different animal than a smooth, full choked 410 barrel.

I have (or should say my 11 y/o daughter has) the same set up including the red dot on the .22 barrel and have to agree that it is a fun little set up.   I found that 2.5" shells pattern better than 3" for whatever reason.  As far as using .45lc I would take Ruppster's advice.  Even if your barrel is a Modified chole like mine logic tells me it is way too tight to safely shoot .45lcs threw it.   You could try .410 slugs as an alternative (although an expensive one.)  In hind sight I kind of wish I had gotten the .22lr/20ga version instead of the .410.  Shells are a little cheaper and send more pellets down range.

I think the 410 is a better fit for the youth stock than the 20 gauge, especially for youth.  Too much recoil in the 20 gauge.

You could be right Steve.  The youth Rossis are very lite.  I'm accustomed to shooting a Mossburg 500 12ga and an adult stocked H&R .410 but the kick of that little .410 surprised me the first time I pulled the trigger.  Not anywhere near 12ga slugs out of the Mossy mind you but a lot more snap than what I had expected, definitely more kick than the full sized H&R .410. Probably closer to my 20ga H&R.
