R73 Drilled and Tapped
« on: November 06, 2010, 08:24:39 PM »
R73 in 32 H&R Magnum

Fixed sights didn't shoot to impact at all, both vertically and horizontally.  Had to hold the point of aim at 10 o' clock high and wide (about a foot or so at 25 yards).

The mount is made out of a No. 4 Enfield mount milled down to height and slotted for the top strap of the gun.  Its been drilled and tapped into the top strap using two 6-32 machine screws.  Cheap tasco red dot on top and away it goes.

Current hunting load for the gun is a lee 311-100-2r cast from wheel weights, water quenched and lubed with liquid alox, seated over 9.0 grains IMR 4227.  Muzzle velocity is 1250 FPS with a deviation of 11 FPS, with a respectable 347 FPE.  I'm getting leading with this load, could use a .314 bullet 'but hey' I'm using what I have.   May try beagling the mold.

Interesting...

I cant see doing that to my R73 though, well unless PA changes their laws to allow centerfires upto .32 caliber pistol on smallgame.

For hunting in PA, any caliber is allowed for small game. Now trapping is a different story. Trappers cannot carry anything larger than a 22 rimfire and ir must be manually operated.

For hunting small game in PA you are limited to "23 caliber".  During deer seasons, you are limited to 22 rimfire for small game.   Groundhog are an exception to the rule and have no caliber limit.

Deer can be taken with any centerfire.
