Strange that we can read a street sign from outer space but nobody seems to know where this thing landed. I really believe the govt knows. Our spies in the sky can tell the min a missle is launched most anywhere in the world, but nobody saw this, or where it went. If it was meant for us, it went the wrong way. POWDERMAN.  :o :o

An objective analysis of the video has determined that it was most likely an air liner on its way from Hawaii, to Arizona.  I tend to believe this is most probable.  I watched an actual ballistic missile launch when I was in the Air Force and it looked nothing like the video shown on the news.  It was so fast that the eye could not follow the missile.  It was nothing more than a flash, a very loud boom and in a few seconds there was a con trail, but the missile was long gone.

Maybe there's an optical illusion at work and it's not really as steep as it appears, but as a pilot, I can't see any common plane climbing at that angle without stalling.  The climb angle looks in the area of 75 degrees.

I don't buy the St nicholas explanation. First reports of North of catalina. SN is southish. I doubt we hear anymore about it. i.e. coverup. A silkworm along with other missiles are  capable of being launched from a torpedo tube is it not? Doesn't have to be a nuke boat, diesel electric could do the job just fine. Remember the gooberment and military play the populace as ignorant forgetting how many veterans there are. For the record I didn't buy the flight 800 story as well. Yahoo revealed a the gulf oil spill records  being doctored today and you wanna believe the gooberment?

That is an awful "forcefull" contrail to be left by a jet plane. JATO, jet assisted takeoff, is forcefull but the burn doesn't last that long. yes I have seen a jato takeoff. Twice actually.

Yahoo is reporting it as a plane. I am not an aerospace "expert". But I spent 4 years abn inf in the Army and was around an awfull lot of aircraft, fixed wing and rotor, take offs, landings, and even crashes.Throughout my life I have also observed many, many contrails. The "trail" in question has a very rapid burn. Does it look like exhaust from an engine or fuel source? Or the condensing heat gases that make up a contrail? That is puffy, billowing, cloud trail that starts out small and enlarges as the "cloud" dissipates and degrades? After my observations over time and viewing the footage, I'm going with missile launch. Your mileage may vary.

I have sat in Palm beach FL. and watched the shuttle launch and this looks about the same. While that is a hundred or so miles south of the launch , you can see it plain as day.

I think it's funny that the conversation has gone from, what's the deal with that missile launch, to, what the heck is it?
No wonder there are people that think Americans are stupid!

Not that it matters, the pictures I took of a large missile launched at Vandenberg AFB, (same neighborhood), look just like that. From 500mi away in Reno, Nv. That raised a big stink with the folks then too. But they came out and said it was a launch, no big deal, and it went away. Now instead of just making it go away, they tell us it's an airplane. Or swamp gas or whatever.

I saw on the news that there is a guy in Ca. that has a pic of the same thing that was taken a year ago this week. That sighting never got an explanation either.

We are just the stupid masses and they treat us that way all the time..............Maybe their right................

Why does it have to be a test run? How about a failed attempt and no one wants to admit somebody got that close

If it were a missile, it is a very very very slow one. I was in air defence in the army, and one thing about missiles is they are fast, very fast, did anyone report a sonic boom? Ballistic missiles are generally supersonic most many times the speed of sound. Cruise missiles are usually subsonic and fly much like an airplane.

An advisory posted Monday by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) — a sub-agency of the Department of Defense — has subsequently raised a number of questions.  In a warning to mariners in the “eastern north Pacific,“ the NGA advisory coincidentally reported that areas off the coast of southern California would be in the ”naval air warfare center sea range,“ and susceptible to ”intermittent missile firing operations” this week.

The advisory noted that “vessels may be requested to alter course” in the area “due to firing operations” and that navigators should “maintain continuous guard while within the range.”  The geographical coordinates encompassing the noted sea range correspond to the reported area in which Monday’s “mystery missile” was spotted.

Vessels traveling to and from California ports in the vicinity of the sea range were instructed to “transit via the Santa Barbara Channel and within nine miles offshore vicinity of Point Mugu or to cross the area southwest of San Nicolas Island between sunset and sunrise.

Monday’s NGA warning also appeared in Tuesday’s broadcast for mariners, noting that missile activity would proceed throughout the week.  However, Wednesday’s advisory made no mention of continuing missile activity.

Eyewitness accounts Monday estimated the approximate location of the trajectory “as west of Los Angeles, north of Catalina Island, and approximately 35 miles out to sea.”

Feedback into The Blaze suggested the anomaly could have been an inter-continental ballistic missile (ICBM) launched from a U.S. submarine off the California coastline. Sources have since confirmed no such launch took place.

However, further investigations have revealed that the noted San Nicolas Island (SNI) — a nine-mile long strip of land about 60 miles south of Point Mugu — is actually home to a U.S. Navy weapons testing and training facility.  According to the Navy, SNI is “critical to performing the Sea Range mission and provides a cornerstone for supporting a wide variety of test, evaluation, training and experimentation operations, including surface-to-air, surface-to-surface, air-to-air, air-to-surface, missile defense, fleet training and large-scale joint experimentation scenarios.”

The Navy has owned and operated various weapons tests on the island since 1933.  The island is coincidentally located at the center of the NGA’s missile advisory range:

The latest 'explanation' is that it was an airliner headed from Hawaii to Phoenix. If that picture was taken from near the surface..that sure is a strange trajectory for an airliner ! In the video, the chopper occupantsclaimed it was a missle launch. Of course, they may have been "looking for" a story too..

Well, I think we can rule out an alien UFO and maybe even a foreign power's missile.  And it looks like the airliner theory isn't holding much water.  What puzzles me is that no one in the news has mentioned what eventually became of the object; which way it went.  It didn't look like it would be that hard to track.  Or did it just keep going up into orbit.

If it were a plane I believe they all have flight plans so it shouldn't be too hard to find out what planes were in the area at the time. POWDERMAN.  :o :o

A commercial plane almost certainly would have filed one, but flight plans are technically optional.  I typically only file them on long flights, but I know a lot of private pilots that pretty much never file them (part of the reason being that when you arrive you have to call in and confirm your arrival - if you forget to call in you're assumed missing and a whole mess follows - the FAA doesn't take it lightly, so a lot of people just don't bother).

Well dogone it we like to laugh at the dumb Greeks who found a wooden horse at the city gate. They being greedy and very PC.  Well after all it would be incorrect to refuse and insult a gift  from your enemy.  They ignored the danger and pulled the unknown gift inside the gates. Well so much for that city.
We have a leader who panders to our enemies. The American left bends over to protect the feelings of a people who are killing Americans right and left. Our President is engaged in pulling the wooden horse into our city. Now with all our defense Techs we are afraid to say missles are testing our west coast defense systems.  The greedy PC left wing Americans are openning the city gates.

Your analogy is spot on RR..The radical left certainly enjoys bashing the "three Cs"...Conservatives, Catholics and Christians..
I presume because with the PC crowd those three are fair game...no closed season on them.
..But led by the "PC-in-Chief, like thw trojans, they are ready to take Islam into the "City" of their hearts and confidence, without even looking inside to see what really makes it tick.
