by subdjoe ~ They had lacked the will to endure the mental and emotional strain, so they would not be Marines.
Brings back memories.
I was USAF but was attached to
3rd Marine Division , DaNang Vietnam.
They drilled every morning before 5:a.m. in front of 3 Star Geneneral Cushman's living quarters and our CRYPTO shop. As the troops approached the area in cadance to double time there was this eerie sound in the distance of their boots stomping the ground that penetrated right through the walls. Moments later another low roar increasing in magnitude from the multitudes in harmoniy with the approaching cadance. Finally, as they passed we could hear the solo voice of the drill sergeant screaming out, "What are we here for !". To which the Troops would answer in stride at the top of their lungs .... " KILL - KILL - KILL !"....... What are we gonna DO !" ......."KILL - KILL - KILL!"....... It'd make the hair stand up on the back of our necks. This continued off into the darkness until there was nothing heard but dead silence once again.
Yes; I'd say the Marines are a different breed of soldier.
