OOPS with my TC Omega
« on: November 10, 2010, 02:15:13 AM »
I have a TC Omega SS with laminated stock (Not TH).  Anyway, was hunting from  a ladder on Saturday evening, did not see anything except one small doe, and was lowering my gun from the stand with a rope.  Just slightly after leaving the stand, the gun came loose from the rope and fell to the ground, about 10-12'.  Bad knot, I guess.  (Wasn't a boyscout :))  Anyway the gun fell flat on the ground except for a 6" log that hit the stock at the pistol grip.  Breaking the stock completely in two.  Bad day.

Did call TC and the guy said to send it in and that I might get a new stock replacement.  He was a little unclear on details but it sounded good.  He said, "accidents happen and its got a lifetime warranty".  Didn't do that, but did order a black Composite stock for the future.
I did "fix" the stock with some Devcon, many small holes, 2 pilots screws internally.  It seems to be good, but will test fire it this afternoon.  I will not be holding it close on that first shot just to be safe.  I really want it useable for this Saturday and Monday.

Final word...... ALWAYS make a good knot when lowering things from your stand. ;)

There is a better than average possibilty that TC would have replaced you stock - they still might if you send it in after the season...

Keep shooting muzzleloaders - they are a blast....

Ouch!

That would have brought tears to my eyes.  No idea what kind of drop line you were using but I have found that a few raps around an object with a line accomplishes two things.  The weight of the object is on the rap and not on the knot, and (#2) the knot is easier open and remove what you are lowering or bringing up.

If you are using nylon parachute cord knots slip on the slick surface and the raps save day.

Just a final update....  Took the omega with fixed stock out and it fired fine.  Must admit, I was "concerned" on the first shot.  Had my daughter there with my cell phone and instructions on using it and calling 911.
Otherwise, now have shot it over a dozen times with no problems.  The fix looks great and is not changing.  The scope was waaaay off.  About 2 feet to the right and a foot down (at 50 yards).  Finally got it back right for 100 yards.
Of course, I have not had a chance to use it on a deer since.  I did pass yesterday PM on a small doe/possible button.  Maybe tomorrow in the morning......  I would really like to use it before the regular gun season starts.

thanks,

Using my repaired TC omega, I took a nice doe on Friday pm, the last day of AL muzzleloader season.  Distance was about 35 yards, but getting dark quick.  Minor track then the pull out of the mountain side.  Overall, well satisfied with my fix and its performance.
Time to put the smoke pole away and get out the good stuff.
thanks,

I would still send it back to T/C, and get the stock replaced. I agree with Semisane, T/C would replace your stock. That's how their Customer Service got such a good rep!
