Veterans Day Message
« on: November 10, 2010, 12:56:22 PM »
Here's an excellent Veteran's Day message I would like to share with all of you. This is coming from my Senior Enlisted Advisor. Many thanks to all who have or are currently serving!

Thanks, Dinny

It has been recorded that less than 1 percent of the population of the
United States has served in the Armed Forces. Yet a large debt of gratitude
continues to be owed to that 1 percent that has or is presently serving.

On 12 November, the Sun will rise and shine on countless markers around the
world where Veterans performed deeds of heroism, courage and compassion for
their fellow man and woman. As it continues to bring on the light of day, it
will dry the dew that has settled on these markers much like the drying of
the tears of those who will visit them ... remembering who they were and
what they did. Comrades, Battle Buddies, Wingmen, Friends ... call them what
you want, they will come together from all places to pay their respect and
say thank you.

Survivors of our historic campaigns will proudly band together as Brothers
and Sisters sharing tears, hugs, war stories and catching up on what's been
going on.

On this Veteran's Day, take a minute to thank those who have raised their
hand for freedom. Let your "Thank You" float in the air that all Veterans
everywhere can hear them. Let your "Thank You" ease the pain and warm the
heart of the families and loved ones of those who bear the scars of war and
those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. May your "Thank You" continue to
spread protection and peace where ever they are. May we continue to be
thankful for our Veterans for where would we be without them.

Please feel free to share  ....

Thank You

Thank you everyone for the kind words. I must admit that my service was influenced by those who served so proudly ahead of me. To them I owe more gratitude than I can ever give all by myself - but that won't stop me from trying. ;)  Thanks to the many of you who have set the example for me to follow.

Thanks, Dinny

Dinny, and all of you, I have a tough time with this every year.  I served from '61 til '68, and lost a lot of friends and people I had a lot of respect for.  Then, there were the many more, wounded, invalided, that still carry the scars.  One of my best friends today is one of them.  He won't talk about it, but he's 100% disabled out of Nam.  It seems the NVA wanted one of his legs, and messed up a large part of the rest of him getting it.

A Marine colonel I Had the honor to work for a brief period, had both legs shot off on his second day there.  He was a superb person...a quality person.  I doubt he is living, because he was senior when I was a just kid.

I worked in a very special and personal relationship with VADM Ashworth, who in those days was COMSIXTHFLT.  I didn't know it at the time, and he never mentioned it, but he was much involved in dumping the two nukes on Japan.  He's gone also, and I regret I never thought to contact him until a few months after his death.  He was a Hell of a Man.

I could go on an bore you all some more, but these are just a couple of the reasons Veterans Day is kinda tough on me.  I lost a lot more buddies.

+1 for that!  This has been an exceptionally rough week for the troops. Many, many have been wounded, more so than we've seen in quite a while.  :'(

Thanks, Dinny

Never forget what you've done.
Always remember why you did it.

This is the best country in the world because of the brave men and women who have served it and the ones who are serving it now.

God's greatest blessings be upon all those who were willing to sign that blank check on their very lives for the safety and security of the greatest nation on earth!!

But especially on the families and loved ones left behind and alone when some made the ultimate sacrifice and never returned!   :'(

It is almost ironic that Dinny's message states fewer than one percent have served.  So many of us here have.  It kinda gives ya a clue to the quality of folks on these forums........you're a special breed......I'm proud to be among you.
