I never used the word government one time. I talked about society, aka, "we the people". I know it's an old and often forgotton concept.
I am not asking the government for anything. It's sad, at best, that at least some in our society don't have a problem with books and behavior like this. Those who oppose this kind of stuff can voice their opposition with their check book.
Government can't fix a society. Only God can do that!!
Religious portions of the argument aside, I will admit that I was mistaken in your intent. The post came soon after another that suggested that this material was illegal, and I assumed your post to be further in support of that position.
I actually have no problem with customers boycotting this material, or a store that sells it. That's completely within your rights. As I even said earlier, I think it's a wise move for Amazon to pull the book. I only became involved with the subject at all when the LEGALITY (ie, government involvement) of the work came into question.
You are comparing apples to oranges. From previous conversations with you, I know you are all about "moderation" and compromise. As in our previous disscussion about moderation, I stand firm that there is no compromise on what's right and what's wrong. If you can't tell the difference between right and wrong, then get with God and He will help you figure it out. Right and wrong is not an opinion. Truth is definitive not subjective. Remember our, "middle of the road", chat? Society is being run down from being in the middle of the road.
I'm not exactly going "middle of the road" here. I support the first amendment on this issue (and in all issues). That has ALWAYS been my position. It's clear and firm, and it's not wishy-washy. The sad fact though is that it's not always popular to support that amendment. Too many people forget that the Bill of Rights contained 9 other amendments besides the 2nd, and none were added lightly.
From the perspective, of saying "don't buy this, it's filth", go ahead. I think that's a good idea and a noble effort. I just don't support handing the government the keys to the printing presses and telling them "Start cracking down on them people saying stuff that 'ain't raht'.". If that wasn't your intention, then we have no real disagreement.
