Kind of an old post but I'll offer a little tho I'm not sure I fully understand the question. What I do know is that for many many years, Savage was nearly the only maker of reasonably available left hand bolt rifles. Now and then Remington made a few, and I think Weatherby. So my dad made me shoot right handed and that's where I've stayed.
I have a friend who has a rather old left hand Savage in 7mm mag - its been a solid reliable gun for him since at least the 1970's. Nothing fancy but it works fine - I watched him take a small brown bear at about 125 yds one shot, and a couple caribou too.
I have a young friend who got a stainless Savage 30-06 after trying to get a stainless Ruger lefty for 2 years. Now that he's taken 2 moose with his Savage, he's in love with it.
I'm not positive but the Savage web site may have a general history of the company.
Left hand bolt rifles are made by more companies now than when I was a kid but it seems to me that Savages are still the easiest to find and moderately priced. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one. You might have to surf the gun maker websites to see what they claim to make. I know my young friend got really really frustrated trying to locate a LH stainless Ruger.
Just bought a used RH 110 30-06 for my 13 yr son and he's pleased with it . Its gotta be at least 2 pounds lighter than my old Winchester and probably more accurate.
Oh and 2 yrs ago I bought my youngest a Sav. LH Mark ll in 22 LR as he is left eyed. Tho they call it a youth model, its still a bit heavy for him at 9 so he still carries his Chipmunk. But the Sav is a nice accurate rifle.
