Where do you go with your fur????

Wondering what everyone on this forum does with their furs (as far as marketing them)?  I skin all the coon that i catch in Nov-Dec after i get a couple freezer full, i shop around to local buyers.  All the rats, beaver, skunk, coyotes, fox, and cats i catch get finished, and shipped to NAFA.  Whats everyone else doing?     Corey

I sell all to my local fur buyer. He treats me more than fair and the prices beat the auction averages.

coon- sell green

coyotes/fox- sell put up and prepared.

rats/mink- sold put up

beaver- sell either green or put up. I get so few beaver usually green.

badger- sell whole to same buyer for taxidermy

I sell to RL Cox Hide and Fur.  He is probably the largest buyer in the south west.  I always do better than auction on cats and yotes and usually better on the few fox and badger I take in.

I am fortunate to have a nice size clientele of taxidermists who purchase many of my pelts.  It requires skinning differently in most cases and takes more time, but pays much better in the long run.  I can sell year round at my pace this way.  When I turned on the computer this morning, I had an email from one of my taxidermist customers wanting several coyotes, grey fox and bobcat.

I do sell some furs to other fur buyers as well.

I sell to my local buyer as he has been fair, as well as helpful. See no reason to send out, as I played that game once with some large February beavers, only to get a $6.50 average on them. When the check came the descriptions all said "damaged goods" which was a complete pile of crap, as they were all put up to spec, and were all unblemeshed, creamy white beauties. Just goes to show you what happens when the fur is out of your hands. With my local buyer I know I'm dealing with a fair man, and this day and age feel better about keeping income local, as well as right here in the good old USA.

I a;ways sell at the nafta auction, with the exception of a few items sold to a taxidermist here and there. I have Never had any problems with fur being sold as damaged etc.My average on beaver was up to an allmost acceptable level last season there. The local buyers would'nt come close to what I got for them. If stuff don't sell, they just hold it and put it in the next auction. It works for me.......just my 2 cents worth,   L.H.

I put my fur up and it all goes to the auction.North American.I do sell a few coyotes to out of state hunters who want a Montana Coyote as a souvener from there trip. They invariably pick out the biggest coyotes, usually off color and offer good money.Local taxidermists don't have any trouble with getting what they want so I don't sell much to them.Maybe a Cross fox or exceptional cat.I'm working on a new marketing scheme for next fall.
I love the smell of coyote gland lure early in the morning. It smells like victory!!
