Custom Bolt Build!!!

Here's pics of the start to my new Bolt Pistol Build. It's a Savage Dual Port target action registered as a pistol. At the present a guy with 40 plus years building barrels at Douglass Barrels is making me a 18" X 1.250 S.S. barrel, 12 twist, chamber in 6BR. I have a pistol stock on order from Joel Russo Russo Stocks. It will be topped off with a Bushnell 6500 Elite 4.5X30-50 scope.

While I am sure that you've done the necessary ground work for this project the 12 twist sounds slow to me...  23 years ago I had a 6x47 built on an XP-100 with the intent of shooting 105 grain bullets in it..  I'm quite sure that we used a 9 twist barrel in that gun.  Currently belongs to a long time buddy and is still an exceptional performer....

It will be throated for 65gr. bullets, 12 twist should do me good!

Yes, really!!!! I guess I could have went with a shorter barrel, if I had wanted to!

I am sorry, but that is not a pistol. If you cant shoot it atleast somewhat accurately, unsupported, then it is not a pistol. Just my definition of a pistol anyway.

I took a Rem 722 and had it re barreled to 6mm br, with a 1-12 twist, no turn neck, at 22 inch long. The worst 5 shot group that it ever shot was .9 inch. Most groups are one hole. It doesn't seam to care what you feed it as long as you keep the bullet weight between 60-80 gr. It's the most expensive fox coyote rifle I own. I think you have made some good choices.

Well your opinion is just that, yours and that's OK with me! But I building it to suit me. And yes my opinion is it is a long range pistol, it will be set up for prone in the field and a bench toy. And according to ATF  it is a pistol, their definition anyway!!!!

Seriously, Im real curious to see what Its gonna look like when you get the "stock" on it. Is it gonna be more or less like a savage striker?

It will be like a Striker on steroids. It will be topped off with a Bushnell 6500 Elite 4.5X30-50 30MM scope. Its sole purpose is to play with out to 500yds. The reason for the barrel being so big and long is to soak up the recoil so the rifle scope doesn't hit.  Yes I could have went smaller and used a muzzle brake but just don't like them.

Heres another of my toys in .223Rem. Even with the 13" X 1.250dia barrel the rifle scope will still bump you. This one is set up on a XP100 action. The barrel is a Douglass.

I guess my opinion is it would be a pistol if it didn't have a bi-pod.
