223AI ??
« on: November 14, 2010, 03:05:04 AM »
I am going to have MGM build an Encore bbl in 223AI chambered for the Hornady Amax 75.
What length?
What  twist?
Anybody have a 223AI in an Encore bbl? How does it shoot?

Can't help you on length, but I shoot 75's quite a bit in Service Rifle competition through a 1:7 twist.  You could probably get by with a 1:8 if you wanted to, but I wouldn't go any slower than that.

I agree.  Unless you're shooting extremely thin jackets, you can't "over stabilize" a bullet.  1:7 would be what i would pick for a .223, no less than a 1:9.  I haven't dealt with the AIs any though.  If you're velocity increase is too much, you may have to stick with a 1:9 (think 22-250 and a 1:12)

Had a 21" 22 hornet bbl rechambered to 223AI  does one hole groups at 100 yards if i hold good 2" or so at 200.  Like it alot, MGM will just as well if not better
