My all time favorite 22, I got mine when I was 14 had to work all summer to save up for it but it was worth it.(It was new on the market at the time) I like to shoot 22shorts in mine, it's never had a misfire or a jam . it's always the first one I grab when I'm after a 22 . Mines not a BDL just a regular one but I couldn't like it more ..... Larry

PURDY!!
I thought that scope would look more out of place on a .22. But it doesn't!

Very nice William!...you have had the tenacity of a bulldog on the rifle & scope research and I think that this combo will pay off for you.

The only thing that I would like to see is if you could get that rear ring back away's from the turrent.
I am not saying that it will hurt anything...
Specially on a .22 where you did not have to torque it real hard...
Leupold would probably give it the ok with my thoughts on disturbing the concentricity of the tube in the sensitive turrent area being unfounded.

After all, you could probably sight in then remove the Leupold and bang it down hard on the table a few times and see no change in poi after reinstalling.
I think a lot of us like to "baby" our equipment tho, It is kind of like dry firing, some did not like doing it one bit so snap caps were invented.

That is where it has to go for the proper eye relief for me---we can move it back, maybe, 5/8" for one of my grandchildren.
That scope turned out to be a tight fit for the rifle--had to remove the rear sight and it only clears the barrel about a 1/4".
Good observations thought.

Great rifle and scope and in the end, you have prevailed William!

Many good thoughts (such as stated in A Beginning Place) but now it is time to test & critique the .22 ammo.

I am more old school so I like to seek out a particular lot number of a brand that shoots well and then buy a bunch of it.

One option that I was looking at was a Poster right here at GBO who had purchased a hollow pointing tool that also resized the bullet. I dont remember who that poster was, and it was within the last
Couple of years, but the before and after groups as shown after range testing were impressive. I should have made a book mark and followed through with that.

And finally, cleaning the barrel comes to mind. We have some here with great experience that would say Never. Others do it annually and some after every 100 shots or so.

I am not trying to hijack this thread, just hoping to come up with thoughts that you might find worthy of consideration for more posting topics and looking forward to hearing your range test results on the Speedmaster.

You can't hi-jack a thread of mine--they wander and ebb and flow----coffee talk conversations.
I am not a big fan of barrel cleaning--pistols and/or rifles---but it can sure bring up a lot of talk.
That tool sounds like something I would like to try. It is amazing, but, I thought i used to remember RN shooting better tha HP'sbut this go-around in life seems to be disputing that.
At this point I am just concentrating on relearning some principles I forgot--plus just shooting a lot and having fun.
I may change my mind and get into some serious stuff. My plan is to shoot some local matches with off the shelf stuff and see how my skills are coming along.

I am impressed with that combo.  The 4-12x is a great combo on a rimfire because generally the targets (game) you are after is small and a 100 yard shot with a rimfire (22lr) is similar to shooting a centerfire at 250 yards.  Anyway, I like it a lot.  I had a plain one back in the mid 60s, my first rifle of any kind.  It was surprisingly accurate for a semi auto factory gun; I shot many tree squirrels with it over the course of two decades.  I loaned it to my sister in law for backyard varmints and my ex. brother in law took the rifle when they split up.

You should really enjoy that rifle and scope; they make a great pair.

I looked over a few pages daily and found that thread on the Hollowpoint\Resize tool thread William.

http://www.gboreloaded.com/forums/index.php/topic,188601.0.html

Josh had made more than one post regarding topic's like the expansion test, hunting test and maybe more but I could not find the one that showed the targets.

This link will do though as we have a Manufacture name and even pictured instructions on how to use the tool.

Quote from Josh:
Quote
They do shoot more accurately than unmodified ammo, but to the same point of aim.  This is probably because they've been set to a standard size, and because the center of mass is further back.  This is speculation however.  I just know it works

This does seem to make good sense as the resized ammo is uniform...I am not saying that the factory ammo is not uniform but at least this ammo went through the very same die.

Josh has not been active here for close to 7 months so contact with him is probably unlikely.

Paco Kelly makes some sort of bullet resizing tool.

I am liking the idea more all the time as the search for .22 accuracy does not seem to be in the rifle, but within the brand of ammo and a particular lot number at that.

I am thinking that one would have to take really good care of the tool to keep the wax, lead, and copper out of it. Not too bad if it is cleaned after each use or every 100 rds.

I can't say much on the scope-rifle combo. I have Leupold 3 1/2 X 10 Vari X III on a Marlin Model 60.
