H110 temperature sensitivity...

Hi guys-

I have developed some nice loads for my Ruger 77 in 44 mag, but have heard of concerns with some powders not being accurate/having ignition problems at lower temps.  How sensitive is H-110?  I am using a CCI 350 mag primer and 23 grains of it for a short range deer load in Michigan.  Temps anywhere from 60 to 0 degrees F.  Will the mag primer assure good ignition?  How about IMR 4227 having problems?

I think most load manuals recommend mag primers for nearly all loads at all conditions for H110, especially in the 44 mag & similar. I load for the 41 mag and have shot a lot of H110 from about -10F or maybe -20 to +70 - using Winchester Large Pistol and CCI mag pistol primers.  I haven't noticed much temp sensitivity.  I don't think I push the upper limits.  I don't recall doing any serious chrono work to compare low temp and high temp behaviors so can't speak with a lot of authority.

The one that was real temp sensitive was the Win / Olin 630 - they discontinued it for that concern.

H110 is virtually the same as Win 296 and it has stayed on the market for a long time.

I think that this covers it and I too, use the CCI 350 for .44mag & .45 Colt hunting loads.

My most extreme test to date was the 2008 season I believe where the SBH was subject to a crisp 10degrees in the pre-dawn and then up to around 29degrees in the afternoon.

I got my shot at 3:15 and the gun roared like a cannon with the 296 in the case.

Thanks for the info guys.  H-110 it is, behind a Speer 240 grain Gold Dot Soft Point.  Watch out!!!!!!!!!
