Same.  Been doing ok so far myself.

Got the deer in the linked pic while dog driving Saturday before last.  8pt, 17" spread, 150 lbs.  I know that's small for some, but it's the biggest I've ever gotten.  Would have made a mount but a few buckshot nicked one side of the rack (sad, but that's unavoidable when dog hunting sometimes).  He's filled up my venison sausage quota for the season :).

Got 7 squirrel this weekend that I did give away to some local people that eat them.

Duck season coming up this Saturday too!!!!!!!  While I hunt several types of animals, I LIVE for duck season.  Already got my spot scouted out for that morning.  Bunch of flooded timber in the woods.  Sat there a few evenings ago and watched 250-300 wood ducks flying in.  Shame that the limit is only 3 of them, but oh well. :)

GREAT POST, and thanks for the good wishes, Slim; consider them returned. It's been a good season so far: an 8pt in blackpowder, two spikes for the freezer, and last Monday a 9pt, prob biggest (well, in top 5) deer I've ever taken. The 9pt was also the only head shot I've ever taken (that was all I could see). Last three all with Marlin in 30-30, and I'm down to three rounds... figure that's enough for one more hunt before buying more ammo!

MGMorden - great buck, thanks for posting the picture! Here are the aforementioned 8pt and 9pt (well, barely 9):

Yeah I figured they could do something (wasn't sure to what level), and was torn on it for a bit - drug the deer out of the woods (took nearly 2 hours) by the good horn - the shot one was starting to crack.

In the end though, I just decided against it.  I saved the horns and have them drying out now.  I'm just going to get one of the board-mount kits for just the rack and go that route.  If I damage another one though I'll definitely keep that in mind.  I figured they could patch up nicks and such, but didn't know they could do a new side from scratch.  Thanks! :)

Shot a nice buck yesterday, and... lost him. Looked hard for him, found blood as far as 200-300 yards from where I hit him (hard to tell, I didn't pace it off) and packed it in after four hours, half that in the rain. That stung, and badly. First one I've lost in a couple years.

BRIGHTENING THINGS CONSIDERABLY... shot a nice six-pointer this morning. I was on public land I've not hunted in five years... scouted yesterday... went in this morning. At around 8:30am this one happened by, on his way somewhere important (well, the rut IS on...). Angling away, 30 yards or so... I grunted and he inconsiderately stopped behind a very larger pine, necessitating a neck shot as chest/shoulders were obscured. Yippee. Here was a bit of good news with this deer: the 350 yard drag was mostly downhill!

Got to get to work on this thing after I finish my coffee...

Good luck to all, and may you always have a full freezer.
