Another good buy and a miss read & got lucky
« on: November 15, 2010, 05:33:42 AM »
I purchased a swede mauser that bubba cut down and never finished again.  I took the swede mauser out of the box and found out the stock is a swede but the receiver is marked "Farbrique Nationale"  and under it, it says "herstal Liege" from what i can make out because the second lower writting is kind of fuzzy.  I then checked the bore and its a .308" diameter.  I then put the safety lever on the bolt raised up and made sure the gun wouldn't fire and loaded a 308 win round into the chamber.  So she is definitely a 308 caliber.  Its weird my 7,62x39 build has been on hold for a while looking for a bubba 308 or a cheap receiver/action for my project.  The seller offered me my $$ back but i said its ok i have another idea for it.  Now i'll order a 308 to 7,62x39 chamber adapter for it soon.  I need the feed kit also.  I figure to cut the barrel down by an 1" or 2" then recrown it with no front site.  I'll scope it and sight it in to see how she groups. The rifling looks great.   This project will be around $200 total for this build if i do most of the work. All i need is the feed kit, scope/scopemount.

Now my question is before i do anything are chamber adapters good or bad?   Should i upgrade to the 7,62x39 barrel kit and change the barrel out?
