Powder choice - Load density
« on: December 10, 2003, 07:30:54 AM »
When striving to achieve 100% load density through powder and load choice, how can we make a selection from among the different brands of powders with similar burn-rates without buying each brand to compare?

Is there a manufacturers specification or volumetric chart available that compares displacement for the different brands and would help to cut down on the guesswork?

Failing that, has anybody gone through this with R-19 as their initial powder choice, and could give me the benefit of their experience?
Struggling every day, to hold onto what I took for granted yesterday.

Load density not only depends on the powder.  It also depends on the case.

Modern Reloading by Lee has a chart in it that lists a volume index number for each of the powders. Muliply the charge weight by the number to get the CCs.

Jgalar, that sounds like just the ticket. Ill track that book down.

Hope it has a fairly comprehensive list of powders?
