Hello,

I have heard that the fore stock of the Ruger No. 1 can affect accuracy. I am looking for a single shot rifle, for both accuracy and the "classic" feel of it. However I cannot afford a Browning 1885, and I have been looking at the Ruger No. 1B. I don't want to purchase this rifle, and then be disappointed in its performance due to a design issue. How do these rifles perform, both in terms of accuracy and hunting (I'm looking that the 7mm)? Is this a valid concern. Thanks!!!

If you aren't locked in to a falling block, you might want to look at the NEF/H&R rilfes. They can be surprizingly accurate and are a lot less spendy than the Ruger. They are coming out with the 7mm-08. And you can get other barrels for them for less than $100.

I have never heard anyone that owned one speak badly of the Ruger #1 in 7X57. Best of luck. POW

I have three No.1's(.22 Hornet, .25-06 and .450 Marlin) and I just wish I was capable of shooting as accurately as the rifle's are. I prefer the falling block design over the break barrel models. Lawdog

I would also prefer a falling block, when push comes to shove. However, finances limit me to the NEF in .30-06. It's a bit of a pain reloading in the prone position, and it's not as pretty as the Ruger....

I have an older No. 1B in 7mm Rem. Magnum that is scary accurate with its favorite load...PMC Eldorado factory loads with the 160 grain Barnes "X" bullet. I've had no issues with the forend, it is as it came from the factory.
