dodge dakota 2005 transfer case

my dakota seems to want to shift itself into 4 wheel drive even though the selector knob is on 2 wheel.i have unplugged the transfer case cause i don't know diddly about electronics in cars.any one got any ideas?

Iam thinking it might be a short/ malfunction in the selector switch or possibly in the solenoid on the transfer case. maybe one of the dodge boys will jump in with a better answer.
