i have to admit to being biased from the onset of this thread but was willing to listen to others views(and i went to the qdma website to read more.the buzz words being biology and healthy herd being bantered about really mean nothing at all.of course if you stop people from shooting small deer they will get bigger.i can come to no other conclusion that this is just a minority group trying to dictate their wants to the majority for their own benifit ......karl

OK, I see I am in the minority. That's OK. Healthy debate is good.

FLNT - We are already imposed upon by being told a legal buck must have 3" antlers. I believe the original reason for that was simply to ensure it was a buck in order to protect does from being shot - back in the day when there were not too many deer around and does needed to be protected. Times have changed and the standards should adapt too.

Karl - biology and a health herd mean nothing?? Wow. I don't even know what to say in response to that. Hunting is really headed down hill if folks have that perspective.

Bubba - can you name another president who did more to promote the wise use of our natural resources?

he did very little to conserve, he did a lot to preserve.  And as I said it was not for you and I, it was for the elite.  Read your history.  Any president didas much for conservation as he did.

ithink you know exactly what i mean, sure a healthy herd is important but as you have already admited the deer are not unhealthy right now.you and the qdma folks just use the words as buzz words so you can stop people from shooting what they want so YOU can shoot bigger bucks.i think you guys watch way to much tv about deer farming..........karl

My view has nothing to do with the desire to shoot bigger bucks. And I don't watch much TV.

Okay here is my opinion. I don't like antler restrictions because no matter how hard you try to say that it doesn't happen this way you are taking all the good genes out of the pool  and leaving only the genes from deer with small racks. About 5 years ago I was seeing a spike horn with only 1 antler, I figured maybe he broke the other one off. I didn't see him the next year and figured maybe he didn't make through deer season. The very next year I shot a buck that had a A straight up rack
with 4 points on one side maybe 6-8 inches long on the other side was a nub about an 1 1/2. I think it was the spike horn from a couple years ago. Now QDM this wouldn't be a "shooter buck" (I hate that term) But in my eyes he was definitely not a deer I would want passing on its genes.
