Encore firing pin problem
« on: November 18, 2010, 09:59:10 AM »
My friend is at
the range and his encore 300 win mag is only putting a dimple in the primer.    Is there an adjustment that may need to be made?  The little Allen screw above the firing pin?  Is that some kind of adjustment/ stop for the hammer?

Does he have the hammer sput on the Encore? If so, remove it and try it. If this doesn.t work, you can call TC and tell them the problem. They will probably send you a stronger hammer spring. The older hanner springs were around 36 lbs. The replacement springs are around 50 lbs. I had this problem. The heavier spring corrected the problem. Hope this helps.

Does the firing pin move smoothly in and out?  I have had some customers bring in Encores with broken/mashed firing pin return springs.  They were all dry fired extensively.  the pin should easily move freely and the spring should retract the pin smoothly.  The Hammer springs have been an issue on some guns.  Replacements are available from T/C or Mike Bellummm. Changing the hammer spring won't hurt.  Be sure to replace the pin assembly clean and dry.  I keep mine very ,very lightly lubed with dry graphite . won't attract dirt or get stiff in real cold weather.
