fun article on hog snaring
« on: December 10, 2003, 11:55:07 AM »
The latest issue of "The Trapper and Predator Caller" has a nice article written by a couple of guys that snared some wild hogs in texas.

I can't find enough to read about wild hogs, and figured there were others like me who would be interested.

Have any of you guys snared one?

I would like to try it but our location has too many cattle, can't take any chances there.

Those hogs are easy and fun to snare.I usee a 3/32 snare set in fence dig unders to snare them around the snout.Set the loop about 12 inches wide and 4-5 inches high and you'll nail those hogs.

I snared 20 hogs in 10 days that way.

your lucky, there are too many cattle on the property that we hunt, and we hardly have enough room for all the crap we take along now, let alone fence repair supplies.

 I snare hogs with cattle in the mix.My situation is unique in the fact that my rancher pays me to remove hogs and he repairs the fences as we catch them.

With the right snare setup you can snare hogs and avoid cattle trouble.

If I caught a cow it would probably drain my checkbook, and result in the loss of hunting permision on our honey hole of a hog ranch.  I thought about breakaway devices but a good hog could pull out a 285lb b.a.d. about as easily as a cow could.

What else would you suggest to avoid catching cattle?

Those pigs are so darn good to eat, I would love to take home two freezers full of pork. And I think I could do it with snares and hunting.
