USFA Gunslinger trigger question

Got to handle a USFA Gunslinger recently and really liked it, but I have a question about the trigger.  Why does it seem so narrow?  Almost seems like an after-thought, oops we need a trigger for this thing.  Did the old Colts have such a narrow trigger?

yep, correct. that trigger is a colt copy. in fact, USFA SA parts interchange with 1st and 2nd gen colt SAA.

Everything feels good on that gun except for the trigger width.  Wonder if anybody has tried a trigger shoe on one?  It wouldn't look very good but it might feel better.

 I think you're trying to mix Apples and Oranges. A trigger shoe has NO business on a SAA.

 I suggest you shoot a SAA for a hour, or so. I think you'll find the slim trigger is NOT an issue. I think the slim SAA trigger imparts a bit more control and feel, to the whole pistol.

As a side note, I find the wider trigger on a Colt gold Cup to be too wide for my tastes........But  thats me.

The only other brand of single action I've shot is Ruger.  I think you are right about the narrow trigger and before I do something stupid and/or expensive I'll just live with them for a while.  I now have two antique finish Gunslingers with the 5 1/2" barrel in 45 Colt and a stainless 12/22.

When you are properly paying attention to the sight picure, target acquisition, breathing and trigger control you will not even notice the trigger width.
