Will you get any social security money?
« on: November 20, 2010, 03:47:43 AM »
Do you expect to get any social security money, now that you've been paying into the system for 20, 30, 40, 50 or more years?

At age 68, I'm getting it now.  However, I look for the tea party Nazis to shut down the government in 2012 so they can blame it on Obama, and that will end Social Security payments to everyone.

Not a chance and I pray it gets fazed out even if I must pay into something I wont get! It would be better for both the country and my offspring!

That's exactly how I feel.  I'd be willing to pay a reduced rate if the government would just let me out.  I'm very confident that I can save for my own retirement without any of their "help".  Unfortunately the old folk are trained to the government teat...

Been paying in 14 years now technically, but really only about 7 years of real, solid earnings (prior we were talking part-time jobs and while I attended school).

I fully expect that I'll never see a penny of social security.  I don't particularly care one way or another, but given that I WON'T be getting any benefit I certainly wouldn't mind to stop seeing it extracted from my check.

What an ignorant statement. I was forced to quit work because of my heart. I paid into that for 44 years, now I'm getting back a small pittance, my income has been cut in 1/2. I earned it. That was a stupid statement even for you. POWDERMAN.  >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

Sadly due to injuries I am drawing it now. I would rather they just cashed me out what I have paid into it. Yes with the interest due.  If it ever does fail as a system, I would immediatly cash out my 401k and not pay the taxes on it if I can. I wonder how many who have paid into it and disagree with it, will send their checks back to the gov't when they are eligible to draw it as a physical means of protest?

Take the actual statement, quoted above, and tell me, specifically, where it is wrong.  Just because you worked for 44 years doesn't make it wrong, nor does the fact that you "earned it".  You are, like many others, trained to the government teat.  If you don't like that fact you should probably have done something about it.

Don't blame the statement because you don't like the fact that it's true.

Well, true and not true.  True in that anyone can have a stroke, heart attack, or car accident.  Some of those things are more controllable than others.  If your point is that anyone can become disabled at any time, that is true.

If your point is that the only recourse when that happens is to sit on your couch with a hand out, palm up, that is decidedly not true.

Look, this is really quite simple:

I don't want the government involved in my medical care.  I buy my own health insurance because I believe that is part of being a responsible husband, father, and adult citizen.
I don't want the government involved in my disability protection.  I buy my own disability insurance because I believe that is part of being a responsible husband, father, and adult citizen.
I don't want the government involved in my retirement.  I save for my own retirement because I believe that is part of being a responsible husband, father, and adult citizen.

There is nothing about my life that I believe the government can manage better than I can.  I behave as if I will never receive any help from anyone, and I would expect other limited government advocates to do the same.

If, in some magical stroke, the SS system became a true pay-in/pay-out system at least I could understand supporting it.  You guys realize that IS NOT the case right?

This thread cracks me up... Those who have complained all year about what they call Obama care and Govt run programs are all of a sudden concerned about their SS.  Why is this a surprise to anyone ??

The Republicans and Tea party folks were very clear stated right out loud early on during campaigns getting rid of SS was part of their charter if they gained control.  It was the Dems that were blocking them from privatizing or getting rid of.

And just think those that are on the roles now and rely on that check to help with med bills etc... well when it's gone ... There is your true death panels. But that's ok remember the new Far right extremist Rep party care about your well being.
What a joke....

So if you voted for the tea or Reps ,ya now gotta live with the decision.

And Just think , if they had been able to privatize it when Bush had wanted too , you would probably have a neg balance now since the wall street crash.

Powderman;  SS only works as long as the working class is larger than the non-working.   For many years now abuse of the system has skyrocketed to the point there are probably more healthy able bodied non-workers drawing SS than workers paying the bill.

Now us feeble old retired folks don't have a dime saved cause we depended on the govt. to support us like it did for Mom and Pop.
If we old folks could have saved our money for retirement, how many of us really would have ?   And have we taught our Kids to come to our aid when we get old ?
Not for the most of us.  They've watched the old fend for themselves as long as possible, then to the REST HOMES for their last days on earth.  The transition is gonna get tuff..............

I want my SS when the time comes. To say you "hope not" seems odd. The criminals that run our government took it from you with the promise you would collect when the time comes, need it or not. I agree that we all need to be responsible and save in case the criminals decide not to not pay out.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm!  ::)  Seems GW wanted to let folks go private for SS back during his "reign of terror" But everyone including obwana said hell no! Now you get about one percent for your money held for SS.  I say I 'll give mine up if they let me keep my future earnings.

I dont begrudge anyone getting SS, I hope you can get it! MY Children got a lot after their mother was killed and it helped me get them through school. My young handicapped son gets some now which helps me get him the care he needs. I'll give mine up. I wish the crooks that depleted  the Fund could get what they deserve.

Heard a stat the other day that said in 30 years there will be only 2 tax payers for every recipient, now there are a bunch of us paying in for every one that gets some.

duk. You are one who never answered my question too, I'll answer none of yours.
FOURBEE. Abuse is rampant in ss. I know a woman who draws disability, so does her shackup, she somehow got all 3 kids drawing a check and she said she gets almost $600  a month in foodstamps. Makes me sick. My wife is disabled and gets about 100+$ a month, but her meds are paid for, about $5-600 a month. I could get it but then she would lose hers and meds, because we are married. The ss lady said if we were shackups it would be no problem. POWDERMAN.  >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

As I have kept sayin, too many parasites can kill the host. Here in America we now have the parasitic class, lawyers, welfare, government workers, the fraudulently disabled, the lazy, the illegal immigrants, who add nothing to the GDP of America. Hopefully the revolution will come soon so we can rid the host of these parasitic tapeworms and lice before the host dies.

I see some kind of scam going on .  I don't know how they do it, but couples on welfare themselves are getting all these newborn babies and small tots that have been given up or taken from drug addicts who've given birth to these children.  I don't know if they're adopting them or what, but they're getting a check for each child.  One of siblings knew enough about drugs to innocently ask a preacher to pray for mommy cause she was on dope.

somebody has to stop the gravy train, and yes that means some decent people are gonna get hurt in the process.  too bad, it's got to stop.  I don't know about "tea party nazis", but I DO KNOW about welfare bums that are either able to work, or would be if they weren't lethargic, gluttonous, obese, fat-monsters eating up what they can and avoiding work all their lives, then crying about having heart issues and being diabetic and not being able to work.  also illegitimate children means guaranteed checks from the time the first kid pops out till the youngest kid is 18, that needs to stop.  if it were up to me the welfare queen mother and children would starve to death.  I have some in my family that cry about how cruel society is but they have money to get to the bar and mcdonald's so I don't feel sorry for them.  same for people dying of emphysema but smoking anyways and whining about evil republicans stopping them from getting their medical "ENTITLEMENTS"!!!  they do it to themselves!  social security is for old people and cripples, no one else.  I honestly wish all the others would just be cut loose.

as a disabled vet I get a minimal disability check because I got mauled by a bomb and am sorta gimp (it's less than I lose in taxes though?!)... but if I was a repeatedly knocked up whore, a fatty, or had the ability to cry about "being held down by the white man" or whatever, I'd be able to sit around on my couch and play videogames all day (and get off my ass and vote democrat with my acorn bus pass while others have to find a way to do so that doesn't conflict with work since they have jobs) while someone else paid my rent!  why do I have to work while I'm (30%) disabled when others don't?  If someone can get up to walk to the bathroom and can drive to the grocery store and get food, then that person can get a damn job.  It doesn't matter how terrible they ache either, they'd feel a lot worse starving to death or dying of scurvy.  Ever seen someone on welfare that cannot do those things?  Probably not, because they're bedridden, blind, or in a nursing home.  they aren't out in public living it up and stinking up our air.

God forbid we actually go back to a federal government that works within the confines of the constitution!

god forbid someone shuts it down before this nation goes under and the big gov help we get is mre's while we're under martial law to stop the rioting and chaos because our nation is financially broken.  it's pathetic how the weakest and least willing to lift a finger scream the loudest, so much virtue and resolve, so little action.

Well when the Tea Party and far right Rep. take it away from you be sure to tell that's not what you wanted when you voted 'em in. Cause that's what they want to do . Actually , what they really want to do is privatize it to the same wall street crooks cronnies and their special interest friends that got us in this mess were in now.  So when they lose it all and you have nothing left the next time the stock MKT crashes , maybe Govt will just hand 'em a bunch of dough again and say that's ok , we know you didn't mean to spend everyone nest egg.

You know , I'm not for Big Govt ... but not all Govt programs are the face of evil. It cost the Govt practically nothing to administer SS. I wonder what the private sector will charge you personally when it gets handed over to them.

PD I feel your pain. My sister in law is diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic, She needs to take expensive drugs just to be able to function in society and not here voices etc.... SS helps out ... wonder what these new far right non moderate Republicans will recommend she do when SS is gone.... Oh wait We already got that answer during their campaigning  ....
