I'd start out at about 20-25 yards until you're on the target with the cheap ones then move it out from there. No sense throwing slugs all over until you know where it's hitting. Especially if you're shooting expensive sabots. Sert01

+1 sert01, that is the only thing that makes sence with any untested firearm. A lot of tiimes I have not been on the paper at 25 yards on fist fireings. Close is good. eddiegjr

thanks guys.. So my buddy let me use his hornady SST's and my groups were less than impressive.. 6-7" groups at 75 yards.. Time to try a new slug.. Any recommendations.. I will try the remingtons as mentioned above but want to pick up 3 or 4 different ones as well.

My Remington 11-87 with fully rifled barrel prefers Federal Barnes Expanders with the 3/4oz slug. They make 3 different Federal/Barnes slugs; the 3/4oz shoots the best in my shotgun. The 3" magnum slug shoots the worst.

In general,  3" magnum slugs do NOT shoot as accurately as the 2.75" slugs. I'm sure there is an exception here or there but I've shot a lot of factory sabot slugs and this has been my observation and it is supported by the postings of many other shooters.

Save yourself some head ache shoot different sabots for group size before you even start to sight it in. Once you have found the ones that group the best in your gun then sight it in with those.

+1 Spikehorn. Should be SOP for any sighting task. If it won't group how can yoou zero it?  (Well it is the center of a 16 inch pattern!)  :o :o   ;D

possume22 glad you like it. It certainly put down many deer for me. I'm just really enjoying the single shots these days. Both my Tracker II 20ga and my sons 20ga ultra slug hunter will clover leaf at 75 yards. Can't ask for more than that in our part of central N.Y.

Buck,
Have you called Beretta to see if they have 2-3 slug recommendations.  That one phone call might save you time and $.
