humping puppy
« on: December 10, 2003, 12:43:03 PM »
My Black Mouth Cur, Tess, is just over a year old and for the past few weeks she tries to hump everything.  Like a male dog would.  I'll be work in my shop and she'll start humping my leg.  I thought it was funny the first time and laughed then told her no.  Even though I tell her to stop all of the time she just can't help but hump everything.  She is not the type of dog to have to be repeatedly told to stop.  Has anyone had to deal with this?  Before I take firmer actions, I wanted to ask why dogs do this, is it a dominance thing?  Last week I was on a pig hunt with some friends and she tried to hump a couple of them, it is not a group that thinks this funny, she even humped my buddies quad.  I've got to stop this but its not a normal bad habbit.  Any help would be appreciated.

I have heard that it is a dominance issue. But I don't know, cause I have seen some dogs hump inanimate objects too...

Difference between a pooddle humping your leg and a pit fighter?

you don't let the poodle finish. :)
Cheers,

Joe,
I fished Lake Macalister real hard in the sping when I wasn't playing ball.  There are some monster fish caught there every year in April and may.  I float tube with med sinking line and a black or green woolybugger in a size ten.  Using worms with a bobber during a summer storm or strong breeze works well if you like to bait fish from shore.  I also fished the Gillinas a bunch and the Cimmeron and Pecos.  Didn't hunt much there. Here in California I hunt coyotes mostly, got two last week before we got some weather.  I love to hunt pigs with Tess too.  She goes on deer hunts too but she is sniper dog not run pigs dog.  I don't fish as much around here as I did in NM because there are not trout that are legal to catch anywhere close.  I do fish for crappy and bass but that gets old.  I like to reload too.  I am also learning how to make knives.  So many hobbies, so little time.  There are many things about New Mexico that I love.

Matt, be careful with your dog and them pigs, if a dog doesnt know how to handle pigs they can get into a heap of trouble, A old sow with pigs can be a double hand full, I lost a dog in the south west corner of new mexico
to a old sow, they got too far ahead of me in real rough country and when i cought up to them my dog was dead. I did finaly got a shot killed one, not much of a trade off, but thats life. take care and be safe.   joe
