Some time back I decked out my original 45-70 Handi in Carbine stocks bought here on the classifieds forum. The idea, as some of you may remember, was to make a "Handy Handi" that I would use primarily with (greatly) reduced 300 gr. 45-70 loads.
Then I got a .410 barrel, again here on the classifieds forum, and it fit the 45-70's action just fine.
Now I had a set I could carry with me to the farm, just to have a rifle/shotgun... well, handy!
Never one to let well enough alone, I purchsed, yup, here on the classifieds forum, a 30/30 barrel. But I no longer had a spare action since the last one I had is now mated with a 280 barrel I purchased here on the classif... well you know where!
So I says to myself, "self" a three barrel set, 45-70/30-30/.410, would be cool! Pick up a couple a forearms, build a nice case to hold it... heck! I'd be the envy of the forum!
'sides, I could also dedicate it to the Grandbabies use!
But, alas and alack, the 30/30 barrel wouldn't fit my old frame...
I was devistated!
And I couldn't bear the thought of modifying the fit of the barrel.
Time passed, the heartache subsided, and I started looking in the classifieds for another action. Part of me wanted to try again but I knew I couldn't bear the pain if things didn't come together smoothly.
Then, like a bolt from the blue it came to me!
It was as if the heavens opened up and a ray of light illuminated the path I was to take!
I had recently purchased a 45 Colt carbine. No, not from here on the forum!
$199.99 +/- from... where was it Tim? CDNN? Anyway, instead of loading the 45/70 way down, I could use the 45 Colt Carbine!
The answer was right there in front of me all the time! I was just to blind to see!
Gleefully, but with some trepidation, I flew with wings on my feet to the man cave. With quivering hands I spun the combination lock then dug out the carbine and extra barrels. My first thought was that the case colored receiver would add a nice touch to a multi barreled set!
First I tried the 410 barrel, IT FIT!
But it had also fit the old 45-70 receiver...
Would that mean the 30-30 barrel would likewise
not fit the Carbine receiver?
Carefully I touched the mating parts of the barrel and the receiver together. Holding the barrel in my left hand and the receiver stock in my right I attempted to snap the joined pieces shut.
