SB2?

Local dealer has a 410 for $149.99 marked SB2 Receiver. How do I tell if it's really an SB2? It's in a youth wood stock? Is this too much for this combo? I really just want the receiver.

The barrel is marked SB2, not the receiver, right?  If it is a new gun, and not one someone put together, it is a SB1 frame.  A local retailer is selling them for $119.95 and I saw one in a gunshop for $139.95.

A 410 barrel wouldn't be marked SB2. It would be marked Pardner 410 gauge.
If it's a new gun it's not an SB2. The factory doesn't put shotgun barrels on SB2 rifle frames.
If they have a hang tag on it that says it's an SB2 it's either a mistake or it's something someone put together. That's not a bad thing if it's fitted properly and it is indeed an SB2 frame. It would be worth buying. If you only want the frame you can sell the rest and make your money back.
Ask them some details about the gun.
If it's just a plain jane 410 shotgun with an SB1 frame it ain't worth $149

I'm sorry the Tag is marked SB2, not the barrel. It's used. I might put a box of 410 just for fun, but don't really need as have a 20 gauge pump

 I would ask what the reciever is, Since the factory does not put that barrel on the rifle reciever. You might ask if they will pull the buttstock so you can see the back of the reciever. If it is solid it is SB1, if skeletonized or slotted it would be the Sb2 ;)

I know at least one local dealer who is totally confused over the SB1-SB2 issue, and as a result, customers are misinformed as to the options they have for barrels.

H&R really needs to mark the frames as either SB1 or SB2.

Yep, they mark 'em for .357 or .44 barrel only, but it seems that the SB2 stamping on the barrels is an ongoing source of confusion. It comes up regularly on this site and, thankfully, correct answers are given. I think that actually stamping the designation on the frame would make it clear to all.

On new firearms it's real easy to tell what frame a rifle is on, it's part of the model number, but even that gets confusing because of the SB2 shotgun frames.  ::) It would help if they dumped the SB2 roll markings on the barrels too.  :-\ But considering H&R doesn't want us swapping barrels and only fit barrels at the factory, they don't need to be marked.

This could also be the case of a dealer who does know what he is talking about thus the reason he has it marked SB2.. Look at the firing pin if it's a small one more than likely it SB2 as he has marked. But still the only way to know for sure is to pull the butt stock . Kurt

This is an after thought . If you buy it just don't come back and ask...being it is a SB2 "can I shoot 45 Colts out of it" ;D That answer is a definite NO.

I thought the .45LC/.410 Survivor barrel came through on an SB1 reciever. Therefore I thought (perhaps mistakenly) that a .45LC/.410 barrel could be fired on an SB1 (shotgun) reciever. Is this true or not?...Thanks....<><....:)

Only the 223 and 308 Survivors come on SB2 frames, the 410/45 comes on an SB1 frame.

I thought only the .357 was the only center fire handgun on an SB1. So confusing! I was just looking for a pellet gun when I found it. If they still have it I'll ask. I did push as the dealer was dealing with a nut case at the time! I think he was an anti-gun person trying to get the dealer to sa something stupid or the guy was really certifiable

The 44mag also comes on an SB1 frame, both it and the 357mag have been that way since 2008, you can tell what frame an H&R comes on by looking at the model numbers on the H&R website.

Thanks Tim, I see the .45 LC/.410 comes on an Sb1 frame as I thought.
Do you have any thoughts  on an idea I have of trying either a  .454 Casull or .460 S&W out of the .45 LC Survivor barrel on an SB2 frame?...and while I am speaking to you, have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving....<><....:)

andy, that 45/410 barrel is rated for shotgun pressures....around 14k
it is made with a milder steel than centerfire barrels.

bckskin2... i have found several high pressure chamberings installed on sb1 receivers
in pawn shops !!!!! :o :o  and told the sales people and there customers about that
problem.....at first, they did not believe me... then i broke out the lapdog and pulled up
the FAQ's and showed them !!!!  this made the sales people mad!!! but,  the customers
were greatful of what they read.

when i'm pawn shop'n i have my handi takedown tools in tha truck !!! ;D

As John said, the 410/45 barrel is 1137 mild steel compared to 4140 for the centerfire rifle barrels, there has been a lot of work done with it at pressures lower than Casull/460, do a search for 450 Mongo to find them.
