A few sabot questions....
« on: November 22, 2010, 03:17:36 PM »
Is the 4-petal Barnes TEZ sabot (blue) the same as the MMP HPH-24?

Secondly, what would be a thinner sabot of the two: the Barnes TEZ or the TC Super Glide (yellow)?

Is there any reason you couldn't shoot the the Barnes out of the Super Glide sabot?
The 250 gr Barnes is a slightly longer bullet than the 250 gr. SST.
I think the Super Glide is a 2-petal design if that makes any difference.

Thanks

MI.sabot,

I don't know the answer to your first two questions but I have shot both the blue barnes sabot and the yellow TC super glide sabots out of my huntsman and my Rossi MZ.  There was no comparision in the performance of the two with the barnes blue sabot performing very well and the yellow TC not so well.  Without wind blowing, the blue sabots land very close together and without broken petals, the yellow sabots landed all over the place and some of them were damaged.

As far as mix and match on sabots and bullets as long as you are putting the right caliber bullet in the appropriate sabot I don't see a problem, unless the bullet is really short for the sabot.  There was a product warning/recall a while back from one of the major manufacturers because they had the wrong length sabot shipped with the bullet.  I have played around with a lot of different combinations to get the fit I wanted on a particular MZ.  I inherited a bunch of the blue barnes sabots from a friend and I am shooting 45 cal. 385 grain lead conicals out of them and they work great.

IF your gun has a tight bore you might want to try the Harvester sabots.  Like any gun/ammo combination you have to play with it and see what works in your particular case.

Good luck hunting this fall.
