Model 25-2 value??

I have a safe queen that I may sell if I can get a fabulous amount for it.

It is a model 25-2 with a 6 1/2 inch barrel. I have the walnut presentation case and box. It is the 45acp model with a fitted 45lc cylinder that is interchangeable. It has had a first-rate trigger job.

It was unfired when I inherited it, now it has had 50 rounds through each cylinder. This is a nice shootin' gun. I can find no flaws in the finish or grips [I have the originals].

This gun is registered in CA and could be sold to a CA resident. That alone should double the price. Gun prices seem to be spiking lately, but then so is gold. I have a few others I am curious about but I should do that in another post later.

I know this a somewhat unique piece, but your opinions would be a great help.

I understand. But a factory letter up's the value for authentication purposes.

You can order one on the SW website. I think it runs about $50 but it was a customer eye opener when I worked in a gun store. Also makes a good conversation piece.

I have bought and sold a lot of N frame S&Ws lately. The 45s are in demand. If I was bidding on your gun at an auction I would be in the $500-$600 range. I did see a couple of them sell for that last month. Shotgunner

With the condition stated, 6 1/2" barrel, wood box and second fitted cylinder I'd expect it to go for a fair amount more than that, especially if a letter from S&W confirms they supplied the second cylinder.

Price depends on the time and place. Like I said, I have been buying good N frames for the numbers I mentioned. I am buying them to re-sell, so am only bidding if the price is right. The cylinder would add $100 to the value, so I would be closer to the $600 number, perhaps a little over. If you find someone who wants to keep it, and they want it badly, it could go higher. I have found that once you get in the $700 - $1,000 range, things slow down. Shotgunner

The cylinder was fitted locally. I don't think S&W would do this. I tend to agree with  Shotgunner on prices.

Older pistols may get a premium in CA , since they can't be imported. I need to speak to a local dealer to find out if that is the case.

Are you sure of that ? it was not all that Uncommon for S&W to fit these guns with a second cylinder before they left the factory or if they were returned for one ? A $50.00 Factory History Letter will state if it left the factory when new that way. If it was sent back for the second cylinder fitting it will not show in the factory Letter request as MR. Jinks has no way of knowing any of the guns service records once it leaves there when New... Hammerdown

Since I bought the cylinder [45 colt] and the ejector hardware and had it fitted, I may safely say S&W didn't do it. I had no idea Smith would do this at all. Interesting.

They did make some up but not many of them, they are rare and expensive when you locate one. They also made the Model 48 which is a .22 W.M.R. Caliber gun with the additional .22 LR cylinder. I have the First year model being a 1959 with Both cylinders as shown. I also have a Five screw Pre-25 Target revolver chambered in .45 ACP shown as well... Hammerdown

My FFL holder requires any firearms to be shipped to them via another FFL holder.  So, If I make an offer on a firearm please let me know if this is capable of being done from the start.  Please do NOT mark an item "SPF" to me until we "both" are happy with and in agreement on shipping, funds and the transaction in general.   Thanks
