Nothing will come of this. The clown will take a vacation, china and north korea will laugh at the worlds greatest taxpayer sucking fraud (u.n.) and will tell the U.S., which china owns, to go jump in a lake. china will then pat the norths leaders on the head and go to bed.

It's worth watching. Now that there is a successor to the elder Il, there could be a new set of problems. The junior Il has a spectacular track record for massive failures to his credit. He may still be going up the learning curve.

North Korea is acting foolishy - not the least of which because their leadership is darned near verifiably insane.

It wasn't a wise attack.  I'm not exactly sure what will come of this.  I can say with certainly that if China steps in, we wouldn't risk a conflict with them over this issue.  I'm not so sure that China would step in though.  For better or for worse, China is so entagled with our economy right now that damage done to us hurts them almost as bad as it does us.  I'm not so sure they'd even be happy with N. Korea stirring up trouble in this regard.

We'll see what comes of it.  If they keep going down the path they have though, I think a conflict with North Korea is inevitable in the long run.  Besides - Americans are so addicted to South Korean goods (Hyundai, Kia, Daewoo, and most importantly in my mind: Samsung), which are as cheap as Chinese stuff but often of marginally better quality AND from free nation, that I'd wager a LOT more people would be in favor of a defensive war in support of South Korea than the stuff we're engaged in in the middle east.

They have little money, few people, and no strong allies. All of their neighbors take a dim view of them.  This is more than likely another gesture aimed at getting a big payoff from the countries, like the US, that want to keep N. Korea quiet.

At some point America won't be able to afford to support all the wars . The others in the world that wish to see our fall realize this and seem to start a war as fast as we pull out from the last one. That said at some point either we will need to stop going to the aid of others or decide it is more cost effective to nuke a few . We keep ourselfs in a cage out of some idea of fairness and our enemies poke at us thur the wire . At some point we will need to shead the cage and be fair to ourselves to even survive.
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

I've seen several news outlets mention this, though it's not surprising.  If you come under enemy fire then the only sensible thing is to return fire.

South Korea should be able to defend themselves, but all the same, I wouldn't be against lending them a couple of nukes.

Hopefully this will get more entertaining. Lets see what chairman Maobama can do in a crisis.

Let's not forget when he gave the Russians one of their greatest military victories ever, and for free, by giving them what they wanted when they resisted the missile shield in Poland.

Sensible thing would be to make sure they won't be able to do so again for centuries IMHO.

If you're referring to nuclear weapons, that's pretty much not even on the table.  The only reason to have nukes at this point is mutually assured destruction (ie, you better not launch a nuke at me, because we have them too and we'll blow you up in turn).

In Japan, when we were the only country that happened to have our hands on them (and we dropped both our bombs - a third bomb was at least 2 years away), it wasn't an issue.  Now though, when multiple countries have them, the day that a nuclear weapon truly is launched in a military action, you're going to see retaliation in turn.  It will almost assuredly spiral out of control, reducing most of the developed world to rubble.  I'd wager that South America and Africa would be largely untouched (in such a scenario they have no nukes and aren't really only anyone's hit-list), but the rest of the world would be a terrible place to be.

In short, in modern times, you don't build nukes to actually use them.  You build nukes so that no one else uses theirs.

I don't see where I mentioned nukes but since you brough it up - you offer only one side . If in fact a very limited nuke hit N.K. and had little if any effect on other countries it may be seen in a different light than your post cast. Consider China in the long run who will mean more to China in the long run N.K. with little economy and alot of debt or American Markets ? They may turn their heads .
Back to non nuke warfare some well place attacks would take out the leadership and maybe lead to a more stable if not one Korea .

You had mentioned it in passing in an earlier post.  I figured that's what you were alluding to when you talk about not being able to the same for "centuries" (since pretty much no conventional weapon could do that).

Trust me, nobody would turn their heads.  Whoever next uses a nuke in a military role will see the world turn on them.  It's like the crazy guy who gets drunk and punches his wife at a party - even his best friends are going to jump on him and subdue him.

By all means, conventional, not nuclear warfare is completely called for in this context.  I think eventually this conflict is going to come to a head anyways, and North Korea can't be allowed to expand into South Korean territory (more land and holdings means more resources, and we can't afford to let N Korea gain that).

I think South Korea should respond in turn.  If they need our help, I think it would certainly be a lot more useful than our deployments in Iraq.   The tricky part is not getting China involved.  We really, really, REALLY can't afford to go to war with China.  Doesn't matter which side wins that - both countries would be utterly damaged. We'd be talking a war that would likely far exceed the destruction seen in WW2.

SOMETHING does need to be done though.

I stand corrected , forgot about early post.
Not so sure about the nuke though as a last ditch effort on S.K. part who would care ? Or more to the point who would agree.
I agree that something needs to be done not only in N.K. but in several places around the world.

South Korea needs to introduce them to one of those old Davy Crockett
missiles they have stashed away. They may be 50+ years old but the BOOM
would be a wake up call for sure. Words are poor weapons against
someone who only understands violence.

We need to dump on N.K. real hard and real quick. As far as China, I think we buy and owe them much more than N.K., who are much more of a pain in the a** to them anyhow. They might give some lip service, but I doubt seriously they would do much more than that. Their economy has grown so much in the last 10-15 years on exports, I don't belive they would want to hurt it. gypsyman

I'm sure they stay ready. I'm so thankful my nephew is out of there, I used to worry about him a lot. He said that if nk decided to go South full force that our troops would be little more than a speed bump. Seems kinda quiet for now. POWDERMAN.  :o :o
