Closest Exotics to DC Area (VA side)
« on: December 10, 2003, 02:51:10 PM »
I'm moving to the Pentagon this summer after another few months in the Middle-East and my kids (14 YOA girl and 11 YOA boy) each want to take an exotic (girl a ram and boy a hog) when we move.  What's the closest place to DC/VA to go?  Any experience with them?  Contact info?

Thanks folks.

South carolina, PA, Tenn. I would check how large the places are, because some tend to be on the small side (100-300 acres).

The closest to you would be Tioga Pa. (1500 acres)   www.hunt-tioga.com
My son a friend and I are going on the 19th of December.
I am going for a Sika Deer and my son a ram and my friend a boar.

:D A little update on the hunt. We arrived there Friday afternoon and got all settled in, the people there were all great.  Saturday morning we headed out to hunt. A lot of walking up and down the mountains, we were stalking the animals and trying for some shots. The woods are thick in some spots there, and the snow was about 8 inches to a foot deep. It snowed all day during the hunt. First we saw a herd of Boar running around and my buddy tried to get a shot at one but could not get a clear shot with his Ruger Redhawk 44 MAG. So we went scouting again and a nice Fallow deer was about 150 yards away in some thick wooded area, I stalked within 75 yards and got a Simi clear shot off with my Encore pistol in 30-06. Got my Fallow. :)  The guide headed back to the lodge area to get the 4 wheeler to get the deer out of the woods when he called back to the other guide that a Black Hawaiian Ram was about 200 yards from where we where, and my son and I headed toward the guide so my son could get his Ram. My son worked into position and took a 60 to 70 yard shot and got his Ram with a Marlin lever action 44 MAG. Again the guide set off to get the 4 wheeler and came back about 40 minutes later and took out the Fallow deer and Hawaiian Ram. There were some other hunters at the bottom of the hill that were after boar and they pushed a big Boar up to us and my friend set out after it with his Ruger Redhawk. He got set up and waited for the boar to show up. The boar had got by us without seeing it, my son spotted it and my friend set out after it. My buddy got set up after he saw the way the boar was heading and the boar got within 40 yards and my buddy, he took his shot and got his boar. One thing that was nice is my son brought along his video cam and we got all three hunts on film. Last night we got home and had some of the boar and it was great eating. The Ram was nice with a full curl, the Fallow deer was not a real big one, it had 11 points and real tall rack and the boar weight in the 250 to 270 area. The lodge was nice and the people there were great. I would recommend it to anyone and would be great for kids.    :D

Sounds like a great hunt Redhawk.

Maybe you can explain something to me, in their price list they have the price and the phrase "and up".  what do they mean by "and up' ?

The prices for Boar are the same. The price for Deer and Ram, Buffalo, and Elk have the and up. The deer starting price is $495.00 for a Doe and the bigger the Bucks rack the higher the price. Same with the Rams, buffalo and Elk, the bigger the antlers and or (Curl) the more you pay. My sons Ram had a full curl and we paid $575.00. My Fallow Deer was $1000.00. I did not go for a real big Fallow, because I really wanted a Sika Deer but they did not have the size Sika I wanted. I liked the look of this Fallow so I took him. I could have got a bigger Fallow but chose the smaller.
