.45 ACP Small Primer
« on: November 23, 2010, 07:12:19 AM »
I was looking for some volume buys on .45 ACP Brass.  I had not bought .45 ACP for a number of years. Many of the adds read 2% of the 1000 units will be .45 ACP NT small primers??  I must be behind the times again. I have never seen .45 ACP brass with small primers. Can some one bring me up to date? What is the story on this small primer NT in .45 ACP Brass???? THX

RR

Winchester and a couple of the others have been using SP primers in their NT or Non-toxic ammo for a few years now .

I just toss the sp case's in a different bucket till it gets full and load as normal with sp primers , now it does cause a slight PITA when using a Dillon or other pro machine when you come to a sp case but not that big of a deal .

My son and I buzzard brass at the range and have a few small primer cases.  I wondered where they came from...

Actually, I think it started with cor-bon cartridges and that piddlin' 400 of theirs - they didn't want to be labeled as rippin' off a wildcatter or another developer to they went to small primered acp brass in both their 400 and 45 to label themselves as unique, which they are not.  jmtcw.

I believe the GAP ammo is the type with small primers.

I believe the GAP ammo is the type with small primers.

I have one "GAP" case that got mixed up with the good stuff. It went through my case feeder and ended up a loaded round. That one had a large primer pocket. Sure made a weird looking round! ------------------Of course a properly loaded "GAP" round is weird enough as it is-----------------LOL Of course it could have been an acp case trimmed down by some enterprising soul.

At the time the GAP ammo came out, it was stated not to use in standard 45 ACP due to higher pressure and the shorter case won't headspace properly.
For those that do not know, GAP stands for Glock Auto Pistol. 8)
