Back to the range with the .44

Alot better this time! Three shots at 50 yards with the 240 Winchester Soft Points (white box) that measured 3/4"... two shots went into the same hole  ;D. It was pretty windy today so I didn't want to give 100 yards a go with a group, but I did shoot one shot at 100 just to see where it was and I cut the small bulls eye ring, so I think I'll call that good. I know some of ya'll have shot a critter or two with these bullets,,, just curious to know how they did "on game"??

All ya gotta do is a little reading, there are lots of posts on that ammo, Spanky just killed a deer with it.  ;)

I was fortunate enough to take 2 does with my .44 Handi last Saturday. I was shooting 240 gr. handloads that approximate factory loads. One doe dropped in it's tracks, the other walked in a small circle and fell over dead! The .44 soft point puts a big ol' hole in whatever it hits!

The factory 240SOFT POINT is a good deer bullet. Stay with soft points and you will be fine. The one acception would be the excellent XTP HP bullet.
My favorite bullet is a Speer 270 GDSP bullet. I have loaded these for a couple friends who have had excellent results with them!

I use the WWB and the Hornady LeverEvolution, both are awesome deer rounds.

I took two deer a number of years back with the WW bullet out of a Deerfield.  Neither went far.

I shot a buck with the 225 gr FTX before.  It was quartering in.  Bullet went in high on the near shoulder, through the heart and stuck under skin on the opposite side.  The dear dropped in its tracks.  However, I was not real impressed with the penetration.  I'd have prefered the bullet to have exited.  This was at about 35 yds.  In the future, I may try a heavier bullet.

I know a hole out helps to let out a blood trail and all, but dead is dead, and it sounds like it did the job and didnt need any tracking. Ive seen them wounded with poor shot placement with that hole in and out that didnt go down as quick as yours. I think there is a strong case to be made for all the energy in your load got expended in the animal. Just MHO........

I haven't shot a deer with mine yet, but it groups 1-1/2" at 100 yd. with Winchester 240 gr. SP ammo. :)  It wears a Weaver 1 - 3x scope.

I was real pleased with the Winchester 240 gr. soft points. They shoot great in the rifle and really hammered the buck. I hit him right behind the shoulder and took out the top of the heart and both lungs. the exit hole was about an inch or a little bigger. I was surprised at how much damage it did inside him... the lungs were destroyed like jelly and the top of the heart was blown apart. the deer buckled and tried to run but he only made it about 20 feet and went face first into the ground. I'm sticking with the 240's for my deer hunting with my 44.

Like others I am using the white box Winchester 240gr soft points.  Currently I am dead on at 100 yard.  Wondering how this compares to others.  Where is your point of impact at 100 yards and what is your maximum distance with this setup?

Soft points are the way to go!! If your loading for it and have the chance to use the Speer 270 GDSP, give them a try, you will like the outcome!!  ;D
