How long of a wait for Indiana handgun permit?
« on: November 24, 2010, 03:08:10 AM »
I applied for an Indiana handgun permit a while back. just wondering if anyone has applied recently and how long did you have to wait? I was under the impression that if you paid a fee and had submitted your finger prints electronically it would only take 7-10 days after submission. well i paid my fee and submitted ellectronically about three weeks ago. I also had to wait a week to pay the local law inforcement agency after I applied. I know that i probably waited to long to apply to make it for this years deer season but we still have this weekend.  :'(

Don't know about the electronic thingy, but I waited 12 weeks to get mine back, and my son waited 16 weeks.  Only advice I can give you is be patient.

If you're waiting for a "permit" you're going to have a very long wait since the state of Indiana does not issue permits.  They issue only a "license to carry handgun" or as most put it, a LTCH.  Semantics aside, I've heard of it taking as much as 6 months back when they were really busy but have heard lately the wait for new licensees was about 4 to 8 weeks if there were no issues.  I hope you applied for the lifetime license rather than the short term which is still available.  I've heard of some mistakenly applying for the short term which is another can of worms.

I have a lifetime carry permit.  It took a while to get.  It was more than a few weeks.

I have a lifetime carry permit.  It took a while to get.  It was more than a few weeks.

When they first offered the lifetime and my 4 year came up for renewal there was an onslaught of folks trying to get the lifetime and turnaround time was 6 months or more.  Did mine online and mailed in the prints and 5 days later there it was.  Granted mine was actually just a renewal but I still couldn't believe it.  Took my brother 4 months and dad almost 6 months.  What can I tell ya? ::)

I would advise anyone to get the right color and weight paper (Xerox 20# pastel pink) and make copies BEFORE you sign the thing.  After all it is only paper and it ain't gonna last forever.  Yes I know you're told not to make copies but I have it on proper authority it is the thing to do and is not an issue but it must be the right paper and A1 quality.  Keep the original in a safe place and laminate a copy after you sign it to carry.

When I got mine ,about 1 1/2 yrs ago they told me it would be 8 to 14 weeks. I think mine took 10 wks before I got it back
If you want it destroyed right, call in a B-52
