They are supposedly going there to join in military manauvers. Might get interesting. I believe young son is flexing, making his daddy proud. POWDERMAN.  :o :o

It's probably a good idea.  Thought the carrier is the big news I'm sure there are a lot of support vessels going to - carriers don't travel alone.

We'll see what happens, on the one hand, conflict isn't good.  On the other hand, if we consistently send the message that if North Korea attacks all anyone is going to do is talk, maybe send some ships, but not actually DO anything, then they won't be much of a deterrent.

Tough decisions to be made in the coming days, for sure.

China has put a great deal of time and "Yen" developing a
long range missile just to counter our carriers. Not the threat
they used to be. Hopefully we will not find out how accurate they are.
China Will see the carrier as an escalation and will respond in kind.
Our navy will see theirs shortly. China also has Nuclear Torpedoes
in their subs to take out an entire flotilla all at once. This could get bad
folks, they are not scared of us.

Just a way for US to surveil the space, dude. Can't do much more when a nuclear country is adjacent to a country it wants to blow up. Just wait. Three weeks and US pumps billions into north korea to appease them. Gay-ron-teed!

ST762

You would never, never 'park boomers' off anyone's coast as a means of gunboat diplomacy - their purpose is to remain invisible and so survive. An Ohio close to the coast could find itself scuppered by a hostile sub. Good thing you're not a bull ensign, let alone CINCPAC.

That's what destroyers and (further out) carriers are good for.

Right on. bro! The US can't even afford some little counterinsurgency crap in a podunk country with no army and only primitive weapons. Just doing that cost over a trillion bucks. Can't do nothin' except go down and down and down. Some real kick butt country would have been in those countries and leveled them and got out without a second thought. We just stay there for half a generation to date then will stay there longer until some real leader comes along or we just can't do it no more.

True , however if you target their antiquated communications ..they cannot coordinate any logistics.
Time to make a statement.  Additionally a large navel presence in Incheon would be very effective in sending
the proper message.

Additionally , Pyongyang has a lot of artillery tubes and rocket launchers parked north of the DMZ that could wreak havoc on Seoul, commanders of the 607th Air Support Operations Group state “We’ve got a very good idea of where most of their pieces are … We’ve had 60 years to watch [the emplacement of North Korean artillery] and they can only put them in so many places.”

It's only 150 miles from Osan to Pyongyang, and the The 51st Fighter Wing has F-16 Fighting Falcons and Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II squadrons.  F-16 is Mach 2 (in excess of 1500 mph)..

I'm not a war monger but I say it's time to rock and roll.  we can be there and back within the half hour.

Absolutely disagree.

And if Clinton hadn't been soft on N. Korea when they announced they were restarting their nuke program, we wouldn't be in this predicament.  we should have eliminated North Korea before we ever went into Iraq. N. Korea was the real threat. A nuclear N. Korea is a danger to us all. Diplomacy has been shown not to work. Sanctions have been shown not to work, Clintons handling of N. Korea has been a disaster.  We should use opportunity to get rid of this blight once and for all.

We should use opportunity to get rid of this blight once and for all.

1. How do you recommend we go about doing this?

2. What repercussion might result from that action?

It's only 150 miles from Osan to Pyongyang, and the The 51st Fighter Wing has F-16 Fighting Falcons and Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II squadrons.  F-16 is Mach 2 (in excess of 1500 mph).
Great airshow performer, but nowhere near that fast carrying fuel, ordnance, and flying low. And there's the minor problem of air defense... I'm bettin' that the NKs have at least a few SAMs... what do you think?

I think it makes sense to leave Germany, where the threat to American security is nonexistent, an to leave Iraq (which we never should have gone in to begin with) and ME.

However , Korea is a vital national interest and security.

Yellowtail , In my humble opinion , the proper response is to take out their nuclear facilities once and for all that are trying to reconstitute weapons grade uranium to sell to highest Bidders ie : Iran , Syria , Libya etc.. Iran finances most of North Korea's arms supplies to Syria. North Korea has no problems selling weapons to any states or terrorist movements.
As U.S. CIA Director Jim Woolsey once remarked, "N. Korea is willing to sell to any country with the cash to pay."
North Korea's biggest arm sales come from ballistic missiles, with Iran and other Middle Eastern states as customers.

North Korea posses the same type of reactor we are trying to block Iran from obtaining.  With North Korea having this technology, Iran will benefit. The possibility that North Korea will transfer nuclear technology to extremist regimes is an extremely dangerous scenario that will plunge the Middle East into disaster.

North Korea has stated and I quote "we will begin a "sacred war" against the United States and South Korea at "any time necessary," based on its nuclear deterrent in response to "reckless" military exercises by the allies.

How soon we forget  -

June 16, 2009 UPDATE  North Korea in the past week  pushed the standoff with the rest of the world to new dangerous levels and consequences.  North Korean officials stated that the rogue nation will  “weaponize” all its plutonium and acknowledged a long-suspected uranium enrichment program for the first time. Both plutonium and uranium are key ingredients of atomic bombs.  North Korea has also said that any ceasing or stopping of their ships is an act of war.  Tensions are high on the Korean Peninsula and the North appears to be heading for some sort of self destruction or desperate action that may create a world wide threat.

We invaded Iraq for what ? I was apposed. We cant find 1 guy in Afghanistan riding a damn donkey.. and the real threat IMHO is and always has always been N.Korea.

and no I am not a war monger , but we have exhausted all other means and time is running out.

Korea was killing ground in the fifties, and nothing was won. Only an imaginary line that everyone has been shooting across ever since. Now America is at it's weakest point since before WWI, and folks think we should not only fight, but could actually win?
Take a big swig of reality gentlemen. We ain't what we was. We're fighting a two front war, we should never have fought, we are protectin folks that hate us, and our southern border is collapsing as we speak. Does anyone really think that this N. Korean threat is really a bad timing event. It's perfect timing! With all the aforementioned goin on, and the fact that we're stone cold BROKE, and have the biggest dumbass in history as president, that ALSO FEELS WE NEED TO BE PUNISHED?
What we need to do, is what Switzerland (even Hitler left them alone) has been doing for years. Pull in our tentacles, and mind our own damn business for a while, until we get OUR OWN DUCKS BACK IN A ROW. This would be like fighting a war from our death bed.
One day, someone is going to get all our assets scattered just like they want them, and come down on us with the hammer of thor. We as a nation have become way to arrogant, and our leaders (those lessor of two evils), are fools.

Remember, the administration is saying these are "preplanned" movements. Thats gives the left wing media what they need to leave the "sabre ratteling" out of the reporting process. Everyone knows thats BS but its all the leftist media needs as justification.

I'm still waiting for someone to explain to me how keeping our troops in S. Korea is going to stop N. Korea from developing a nuke!

The US is indeed in a precarious situation here. Considering the fact that
Chinese troops are already in place in Central and South America. Have been
for several years. They will disable the Panama Canal to severely slow the mobilization
of our Atlantic Fleet. Pacific Fleet will not be enough. Then they will just move north.
Our Southern Border is so frail that it will be a walk in the park.

+1 Dee. IMO the US military  should tactically regroup in the USA, stop trading with china and get America back on track to where it was before nixon started playing chinese relations. The US needs to butt out and rebuild by bringing our manufacturing back here and stopping foreign aid. As well as stop training the worlds future terrorists/enemies in our universities. Gonna be trouble coming down the pike if the US doesn't keep its dog in its own dang yard. Though I would fight to the death if need be, I do not think the US should be taking the possibility of conflict with china lightly.

I have seen/heard reports of where china controls both ports, east and west of the panama canal. I would think that comsubwespac has  that region covered.

I think we ought to explore a little different strategy and that would be to plant the idea in China's cap that how would they like to annex North Korea and remove that troublesome irritant.  They might not want the responsibility of feeding and caring for the North Koreans, but they probably do to some extent anyway.  We could offer to China that we would not resist in any way and might help with selling the idea to the U.N. and the rest of the world.

South Korea might, or might not like the idea, but how could it be any worse than what already has been going on.

Tomorrow the maneuvers begin, might get real nasty, I hope and pray not. Millions of lives on the line in Seoul, all within artillery range of a reported 200,000 155mms. I believe I'd have had my family out of there well before now.  POWDERMAN.  :( :( :( :( :( :(
