thoughts and opinions on howa rifles?
« on: November 26, 2010, 04:55:06 PM »
I have a friend that has been looking at the .223 that howa makes with the short (22in) i believe bull barrel. Im just curious how the accuracy rates compared to a savage model 12 or other varmint rifles? are these rifles dependable and accurate out of the box or should he buy a savage or something else?

Howa makes excellent rifles.  Weathery Vanguard rifle actions (and maybe other WBY's as well) are built by Howa.

The HOWA rifles I have handled and shot were excellent shooting guns.  It really comes down to what the shooter's preference.  I recommend handling each before spending your hard earned money.  I have very small hands, so what is important to me is grip thickness and feel.  This may not be important to someone else.

I have a Howa in 300 win mag that has shot under 1.5" groups with everything I have put through it, and less than an inch with most of my handloads.  I have a boyds stock on mine and the trigger has been worked on to get it to about 2.5#.
