TC + cullhunting
« on: November 27, 2010, 08:37:43 AM »
I`m so tired of cold weather - taht I have decided to travel to South Africa next week.
I will cull impala.
My TC`s "have been hiding" for a long time now - because I "found out" that a TC was more or less a rifle (some years ago) - and therefor I have used my revolvers.

This time - I will shoot at long distances - so the rifle in 30-30  :D will be loaded with Nosler 150 gr. BT and Hornady SST 150 gr.

A single-horned waterbuck who is going in the same area - has also my name  ;) - written on his shoulder :D

The 125 Nosler ballistic tips work perfect on white tail deer so they should also work great in impala. I took 4 deer with this bullet out of my 14" Contender 30-30AI this season. You could not ask for better bullet performance. Good luck and good shooting.

What are you using for the Waterbuck?

I have shot a lot of animals (and - as big as a w.buck) with Nosler.
But this time - I think I will try the SST.
I have never used this bullet before.

Are you afraid that the 30-30 don`t do the job?
I`m not!

It`s up to me - to place a good shot.

If I place a 375 H&H or a 30-30 wrong - there will be problems in both cases!!!!

Very true. I was just wondering. No choir to preach to here..... I use a .38 on Whitetail.... (: Placement is everything. I just wasn't sure of the toughness in the brisket area....never hunted them.

Finally I got home to winter and snow  >:(

When I got into SA - it was not a cullhunt I should do - but a hunt after bad genetically impala - and the horns was high as trophies.
And I can assure you - that this type of hunt not is simple.

I shot 10 impala with Hornady SST 150 gr. and  3 impala with Nosler BT 150 gr.

Nobody ran more than 60-70 yds. – if they didn`t fall down where they stood.
Shootingdistances was 80-160 yds.

I also shot one Nyala at 90 yds – and it ran 50 yds.
Also a Waterbuck “met” the SST at 120 yds – and ran about the same distance.

I borrowed a Ruger Blackhawk with open sights (which colours were silver  :-X ) – but they worked  :o.
The warthog was shot through the heart at 30 yds – and jumped higher than a springbuck.
Runningdistance: 10 yds.

Within this huntingyear - I have used my RSH 44 Mag, FA 454 and my TC in 30-30, with 33 good placed shots.
And that amount of animals without a bad shot - is the first time for me.

Maybe I shall do as athleticstars do?
Finish the "game" when I`m on top  :D

Very good shooting!  Great evidence to answer the "How much gun is enough" debate. Placement, placement, and placement. Thanks for sharing.
