« on: November 27, 2010, 04:35:43 PM »
Anyone had any experience or any opinions about the E.R. Shaw line of "custom" rifles assembed with Savage actions and ER Shaw barrels?

90 Calibers to chose from.

No experience, but I have been trying to do some research on them myself.  Will keep an eye on this thread.

I had them rebarrel a ruger MkII. Did a very nice job and the gun is very accurate....more so than when it had a factory barrel.  The only thing was the price was $585 it did take all of 26 weeks.  I was expecting the price to be in the $3-400 dollar range and it wasn't due to a few upgrades like fluting and blueing.  I'd get another if I needed one, so I expect they deliver what they offer.

What caliber?  How long?  Stainless?  What contour?

Please provide more details.   :)

From what I have seen its is a Savage 110 action with an ER Shaw barrel and a Boyds JRS stock. But they remove the barrel nut and install the barrel without it.

You could probably do the same thing yourself for about the same money. Also, why get a Savage without the barrel nut.

No thanks.

Hi LGM,

I had them rebarrel back to the original 243 (though in retrospect I should've had them rebarrel to 7-08 as it would have been better for my needs).  I got the #1 1/2 mag sporter contour and I should have gotten the #1 light contour cause it made the gun over 8lbs....too heavy for the 243 as I see it...that's me.  I also got the delux blue and the straight flutes and it is 22".  I also had the action trued and squared.  The gun will shoot pretty consistantly 1" groups or less at 100 and I'm pleased though not entirely satisfied with it for reasons that have nothing to do with Shaw.

Actually drdougrx for the work you had done I'd expect to pay the price you say they charged. I don't think you could get all that work plus the custom barrel for 3-400$. I paid over $400 just to rebarrel without any other work.  :)

I think you are right Pastor.... in retrospect i don't think i added everything up correctly, or maybe didn't take the time to realize all that i'd ordered...no matter now....it's done and I'm well satisfied.
