accurate loads in Black Diamond with which conicals?

What conicals for 50 cal. BlackDiamond does anybody use? The only one I can get to shoot accurately is my home cast out of a Leemold that looks exactly like a TC 320 gr. maxi-ball. Have tried 320 gr. REAL  conicals & 360 gr. lee improved minis, theyare not at all accurate :grin:

Shallow grooved 1-28" barrels generally prefer sabot/bullets over conicals.  Lowering your powder charge & avoid using hot powders like 777 and Swiss black should help your shot groupings with conicals. In an effort to help you shoot conicals out of your B.D. rifle, I have read numerous threads where 400 grain conicals & 80-ish grains of Pyro or Black have produced acceptable 100 yard groups involving this polymer-tipped Precision Bullet sold by Cabelas......

Before I switched my .50 cal T/C Black Diamond over to a diet of saboted bullets, I thought that the 385 grain Hornady "Great Plains" conical bullet shot pretty well over a couple of pyrodex pellets.

(These bullets are easy to find at a store near you.)

Your post translates into an oxymoron reply! Why the switch to sabots Brownsfan? If you are trying to dispute my opinion on sabots performing better, then please--- tell us why you abandoned the conicals & why sabots are now your preferred choice? Just curious!

I sensed that this fellow has a preference for shooting conical bullets out of his Black Diamond and I believe that I have addressed his question.

When I originally bought my T/C Black Diamond and shot the gun with open sights, I used the 385 grain Hornady Great Plains Hollow Base conicals and was very satisfied with their accuracy as well as the way they loaded.  Don't remember the exact group size (perhaps 3 inches max) with open sights at 70 yards.  This combo worked well in any thicket and killed any deer standing in the way of a shot.

As I learned more about the "new" saboted bullets and their potential, I "updated" my muzzleloading techniques to using a scope along with a saboted round.  I am no longer hunting a thicket, but hunting out of a blind along a field edge due to a job-related geographic move that I had to make.  The sabot and scope extends my rifle's range, if I do my part correctly.

What do you want me to tell him....that he is making a mistake in shooting conicals out of a Black Diamond?
Not an oxymoron, but a preference.
Not everyone hunts with the same equipment, in the same manner, or with the same expectations.
But all methods will kill deer and all are enjoyable.
