Grandpop got the runt!

  Having spent the good part of last week up at the camp in NY hunting deer finally got one saturday
morning. Only the second buck I saw all week. He came out from behind my stand with 2 does on a
trot and I saw bone so waited for them to hit the clearing to my left. As soon he came out I swung on him
and let fly. He went down but tried to crawl off but put another in the neck. Turns out he was a spike but
as we say"he'll eat!". Went back to camp to get the quad and Grandson hops on to go with me. Loaded it up
and went back to camp and he jumps off and yells out " Grandpop shot the runt with his cannon!(444). Took
a little ribbing on that one.
  Tomorrow starts Pennsylvania and my farmer friend tells me theres a big nine been hanging around so maybe
I can get the runts big brother. Its all fun and then Jersey opens on the 6th.  Fred

Fred, something momma told me long ago about deer horns..." No matter how long you boil em, they make lousy soup".  That deer will eat just fine, the size of the horns make no never mind...

That's exactly where I am too.  I'm trying to blood the .38-55.  Yesterday, I was getting ready to head in and a pigeon landed about 45 yards from me.  I said "What the heck, I'm quiting anyhow."  Ka-wham!!  Went down there, feathers all over......no bird.  I searched around a bit and finally found a head and neck with the crop attached....nothing else.  That 213 gr. bonded bullet running at 2 grand simply destroyed that pest.  Actually, Tim nailed it all the way from Washington State.   Thanks Tim.
