.500 Shorty FINALLY draws blood
« on: November 28, 2010, 04:55:34 PM »
I been really snakebit this year.  First off, I was sick for the first couple weeks of deer season.  Then my pregnant wife was/is on bedrest so when Im not working I been home taking care of her and the kids.  Thanksgiving day it was 84 degrees and I was wearing shorts then the next morning it was 27 and sleeting.  Between my bad luck and the weather having the deer fouled up when I was finally able to hunt I was getting skunked this year.  But no more!  Got about a 120# nanny with the .500 shorty at about 110yds.  The 610gr ranger rick did its job perfectly...1/2" entry hole and maybe a 1" exit hole.  Very clean wound channel with minimal meat damage.  I think this is going to be the beginning of a beautiful friendship!

Way to go Jason, I'm glad you finally got some time to go hunting and glad you got some meat.
The 500 and cast bullets are a great matchup for deer, I got another one this year with my 440 grain GC bullets from my LEE mold.

Congrats!

GOOD SHOOTING!

Jason, I'm glad you were able to get out and get one.  Is the wife o.k.?

CW, My all time favorite "go to" rifle is my 16.5 inch Handi .357 Maxi.  It wears an Allen nine cartridge buttstock holder with three each .38s, mags and maxis.  It's good to go for about anything that walks, crawls flys or wiggles in Michigan.

Congrats on the doe. ;D

Spanky, I agree with you whole heartedly.  The Maxi, .38-55, the .445 and the .45-70 do everything I need to do.  I could part out or sell the rest of them.  They're not being used.  I'd keep my .223 cause it's fun, and my .308 Ruger cause it's a "Magic Rifle".  My .30-30 levergun was a gift from a deceased buddy, so that one stays home.  I'd probably keep da thirty tirty Handi too.  Here's what the Angel on my right shoulder has to say:  "And ya-da-ya-da-ya....yeah, sure Pete, you're gonna sell them.  Yeah, you gotta reason to keep each one of them, dumbass, or else ya wouldn't have bought them."  That angel is a pretty savy little critter.  I oughta pay attention once in a while.
