Hey CW how about giving me your address, gun safe combo and when you and the family will be out of town. I hope you got one of them big 58" flat screens also. :D  Oh and please stock up the fridge.

Looks good man. All rifles are just a hacksaw away from perfection.
Short barrels are just as accurate as long barrels.
I use a carriage bolt and some flitz with a hand drill to crown mine.

My 357 is now 17". I stuck a Williams Guide Reciever Sight and a front from a Contender pistol on temporarly. The combination worked, but the comb of the stock is way too high for me , so the scope will be back on.  My stocks are plastic, would wood stocks have lower combs, or do I need a stock from a rifle that came with iron sights?

Bilmac,
Everyones build is a little different. But generally a Monti Carlo stock is best for scope use and a non monti is best for open sites and shotguns.

I used a contender front site on my maxi barrel for many years bit worked and looked great. Contender rear sites are great too I have one on a sidekick and combined with a " glowworm" front site also woths great. I even added one to a Ruger MKII 22 target pistol. It worked perfectly with the stock front site and has an excellent profile for target use. Head and shoulders above the ruger stock junk!!!

CW did your GS drill an tap the barrel for the scope mount? Were there any problems? How do you like the mounting system comp. to the standerd mounts that come on the Handi?

Bilmac, the wood stocks come in 'Monte Carlo' with the high comb, low comb as on the open sight guns and shotguns, the more traditional looking Buffalo Classic; they also come with recoil pads or hard plastic buttplates, in 'palletwood, laminates and walnut and with or without the'pistolgrip'. Go to your local Gander or Cabelas and pick up the factory catalog to see what they have pictured. On the singleshot the buttstocks all interchange.
Did I miss anything, guys?
Between these factory offerings you can usually quite easily and affordably find something that fits your style, cheekbone and length of pull.
I solved that very problem by going to the low comb, recoil pad, palletwood stock for a shotgun on my rifle.

If you mean for the front site no I did it.

I have done a bunch of peeps but never a scope base on a handi. But it's no different, I just haven't needed to.

If you mean the DNZ mount, no it uses factory handi hole spacing found on most H&R rifles.

That just depends on your anatomy and the stock, I've compared wood monte carlo stocks side by side, they aren't all the same height, I've use a laminated pallet wood monte carlo stock with the WGRS on one of my 45-70s that worked just fine. The stock can always be modified too, I used a synthetic monte carlo stock on my TDC turkey gun the first two years I used it, I had to sand the comb down so it was low enough to use the fiber optic sights.
