I just received an used TC Encore synthetic butt stock and it didn't come with the screw to attach it to the frame. I thought it would be no problem to use the screw from my walnut stock (I also have an identical length screw in my synthetic pistol grip). However, the screw was a little too long and would bottom out before seating. So I added a thick washer. Now it seats properly. But after attaching it I started having a problem cocking the hammer. It took some time studying the situation to find that the screw was going too deep in the frame and stopping a lever from moving before the hammer could cock. Sure enough, when I backed the screw out the hammer works properly. Only now the screw is sticking out the bottom of the stock so the cosmetic TC cap can't be attached.
So the screw in the walnut butt stock and the synthetic pistol grip are the same size, but the proper screw for the synthetic butt stock is different? As an engineer myself, I consider this poor engineering on TC's part. So now I have to find and order another screw for the frame, or have one trimmed down?
