I have never owned a black gun. Always ones with cranks on the side. Anyone ever use a scoped ar for varmits. I recently read about a company named model 1. Anyone know anything about them. Quality accuracy. They offer a big stainless barred gun with flattop ready for scope for just over 500.00. Thats peaked my curosity a touch. Help

Model One Sales: A descendant of the infamous Nesard of Chicago, this company sells only parts and parts kits of moderate quality at rock bottom prices. Customer service is dismal and quality control is sporadic, but their low prices keep them at the top of the list of most home workshop gun makers. A point in favor of their customer service is that they make all of their goods available with no questions asked as long as they are assured payment. It is rumored that many of the parts sold by this company are made in Israel, the Philippines, China, Singapore and Pakistan. Prices for Model one parts and parts kits can easily be 20% below those of other parts vendors. For an average savings of $200 per gun, many gunsmiths will endure a little more work to get a functional gun, even if it means returning some of the parts for replacement if they are beyond help when it comes to fitting. Model 1 dealer pricing structures are also fairly well set up to ensure reasonable profits fro those who buy in bulk, thus many small gunshow dealers use Model One sales as their source.

I have used various AR15s, with and without scopes for years, amoung other rifles for calling coyotes and occasional shot a rock chuck or two, many rabbits also. Any specific question?

I know nothing firsthand about "model 1" but I have heard the same information as mentioned in the first post. I found long ago that one is money and time ahead dealing with well known and established companies that deal in parts or "assemblies". Buyer beware.

I had a Colt model 6742 for a few years and it would shoot 1/2" groups with just about any factory ammo I tried. My buddy talked me out of it. I bought a Bushmaster SS Varmint Special a few weeks ago and had to send it to Bushmaster because I was getting 2" to 4" groups with it. They tell me it will shoot as good as the Colt did. We'll see after I get it back. That being said, the AR's are capable of extremely good accuracy if they are put together with good parts. I'd be leery of a $500 Varmint version.

Boy glad I posted here. Another page I posted on came back with all raves about company gun and accuracy. As some might have guessed by the name I am way out of my zone with this style of rifle. Also been a fairlly good judge of you get what you pay for. The article in shotgun news sounded decent but I somehow read into it that tjey were complete guns. They are supposed to be shaw barrels. I have interest in one for yotes and maybe a upcoming prarie dog trip. Long over due been planning on going for several years, fingers crossed for this year. I think I will wait for more feedback, I thought those ar parts were fairly tight tolerace and had to be treated to prevent quick were problems. I can't believe a chinese made stuff could accomplish either. Tried several bargain china made articles found out there quality is no better than there human rights, both suck! Thanks for saving me. Any pointers on which company might be able to provide me the important parts and use model 1 for the less critical. Or is ther any such thing. Those folks over on the other page were bragging them up as 1/2 minute angle a great deals. I would sure like to know more. I am on a real budget to be able to swing buying a gun so the price was tempting. Help me if you can.

You said yourself, "ya gets what ya pays fer". If budget is that tight and you still want to hit what you shoot at, go fo a more traditional varmint rig. I paid quite a bit for the Colt I had and have kicked myself constantly since I let my buddy buy it because it was the most fun I ever had by myself. They are a real blast on prarie dogs and any other varmint you go for. But they are pricey. Priorities.
