Beautiful Rifle Fred!  Congratulations on the deer.  That 284 was the original "short, fat" cartridge, still a fine round today.  Seems it's used more as a case for necking up and down as it is as a 7mm.  DP

Eh men! I never posted that picture I had lots of trouble with posting the pictures in "SINGLE SHOT RIFLES" but finaly got the
pictures up. My computer got all kinds of hic-ups, its time for a new one.

Yes that rifle is a "one holer" 8.5" twist and an octagone barrel which balances the 26" barrel very well. The cartridge is similar to the 6.5-06 which I would have liked better. The 6.5x284 cases are a buck a piece. But for hunting that is inconsequential.
The rifle also has a single set trigger by Kepplinger of Austria and a Kahles 3-9 scope also from Austria.

This rifle barrel started as a 243 and Ron Smith rebored and rechambered it. The 6.5x30-06 would not clean up the chamber hence 6.5x284.

I am very happy with this rifle, after having some trigger problems
because of ignorance on my part. But I learnt. The set trigger lets go at 12oz and the standard pull is 26 oz. It was suppoed to be 30oz, but I am not taking it down again.

Go over to Single shot Rifles to get the deer story.
