How do you ship a gun to the maker?

Federal law allowes the owner to ship a firearm back to the maker or gunsmith company for work and have it sint back to you.  Your state and local laws may be a little diffrent.  When shiping a firearm it must be unloaded and no live rounds in the package. It must go trough a private company like ups or fed ex. Ffl holders can ship trough the us mail.

Private citizens can/do use US Mail (allowed per USPS regs) to ship long guns, but USPS will only allow the mailing of handguns by FFL's.

That said, if/when I have to mail a handgun, I go to a Post Office and obtain (free) a FLAT Rate Box of the appropriate size to fit my handgun, and take the package to my FFL for mailing.  The USPS Flat Rate max's out @ $15, and a friendly FFL may trot it to their PO or let his PO Delivery person pick it up on the cheap.

Non-licensees can ship handguns to the Mfr by UPS next day services, Air Saver is the least expensive, also long guns can be shipped ground, I prefer USPS Priority mail insured for long guns.
